Redlegs Take Two From Bucs
Posted on June 8, 2012 at 11:44 PM.
Cincinnati, OH---After dropping the first game of a three game series in Pittsburgh, the Reds find a way to bounce back and take two of the three games against the Pirates. All three games were decided between two runs or less. Votto's solo homer in the 9th of Friday's (5/12) match-up just wasn't enough in the 2-1 loss. AJ Burnett took a no hitter into the 8th against the NL Central leaders, but a Ryan Hanigan double with 2 outs broke it up.

In the second game, the Reds were hard to put away. "They just keep battling, the whole game and we were unable to put them away. That's a hell of a team," says Pirates manager Clint hurdle. The Reds would counter runs in 3 innings that Pittsburgh scored in. A 2-run home run by Devin Mesoroco in the 6th inning sealed the deal as the Reds came away with the victory 7-5. Mat Latos struggled; giving up 4 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings, but came away with the win, to go to 3-2 on the year.

Another pitching duel it was in game three. Bronson Arroyo (4-0, 1.30) only gave up a Neil Walker home run in the 6th inning. The Reds were shut out until the 9th for the second time in the series. Joey Votto, hit a solo home run against Closer, Joel Hanrahan, for his second home run in the series, tying things at one a-piece. The Reds would go on the win in crazy fashion. With Todd Frazier on second in the 10th, Drew Stubbs struck out on a pitch in the dirt, but a costly error by Rod Barajas allowed the run the score, as his overthrew his first baseman, trying to throw Stubbs out. "That's how the game of baseball is," says Reds third baseman Todd Frazier. "You never know how a game might end." Cincinnati continues it six game road trip as they take on the Brewers, who are facing a significant amount of injuries. Homer Bailey (2-0, 2.12) will take the mound for the Reds against Shaun Marcum (3-1, 5.57).

Series Team Stats
