I just thought I would let you guys know, I'm taking a break from NHL 12 to play some Madden because it froze AGAIN! I am so mad with this game, so my next couple updates will most likely be Madden updates.

I may have made some bad trades, but I felt like a major roster movement was required.
To Tampa Bay:
Trevor Daley
Henrik Zetterberg
John Scott
To Columbus:
Trent Lofthouse
2017 3rd round pick
Analysis: I felt like Matt Finn was ready to step in to the top four, so Daley became expendable. Zetterberg was aging and either Huberdeau of Lofthouse should be able to anchor my new first line.
To Edmonton:
Marian Gaborik
To Columbus:
Jeff Skinner
Analysis: This trade was mostly about shaving cap space and getting younger.
To Washington:
Alexander Ovechkin
To Columbus:
Evander Kane
Dennis Wideman
2017 1st round pick
2017 2nd round pick
2018 3rd round pick
Analysis: I'm gonna be honest, I really don't know why I did this. Most likely because Ovechkin's contract was coming off next year and I was worried I wouldn't be able to resign him. In return I got a real solid left winger, a bounty of draft picks and Wideman, who was thrown in as salary.
To San Jose:
Dennis Wideman
To Columbus:
2017 1st round pick
2017 5th round pick
2017 6th round pick
2017 7th round pick
Analysis: Because Wideman wasn't needed, I traded him to a team that needed a defenseman. In return I got four more draft picks, although the last three were mostly for maximizing return, but they can prove valuable, as my 6th round pick in 2014 has blossomed into a prime defensive prospect.
Free Agents:
Ian White- To back my powerplay
Martin Erat- To provide some fourth line scoring
Another reason is to get my team to cap floor.

So. This is how it ends. I have one line, an unbelievable line, but one line nevertheless. Hall, Landeskog, Nugent-Hopkins, Larsson, Pitkanen and Allen are, probably 75% of my cap. (No exaggeration, they're all above 10.000M per year. I have had to trade away everybody that has and form of substantial cap room, and it has left me with one line. However, this line has dominated the NHL.
Hall has won 4 Harts in a row, Nugent-Hopkins as won 2 or 3 Lady Byngs, and assortment of players (none of whom remain with the team) have won the Calder for the past 4 years, Pitkanen has won 2 of the last 3 Norrises, and the other one was won by Larsson. And then there is Jake Allen. At least 5 Vezinas in a row, At least 5 Jennings'in a row.
Oh. I might as well tell you their overalls:
Hall 96
RNH 94
Landeskog 94
Larsson 97
Pitkanen 94
Very good. Oh wait. I forgot Allen. 99. He has 99 in over half of his stats. Larsson has 99 in every defensive stat except faceoffs (OH NO) and an assortment of others.
After this, it takes a steep decline. Phillipe Joudrey is a 92 OVR defenseman, but he is a tough guy, so he is essentially useless (4 goals in 400~ games). In one season Allen had more goals than him. Yes, My goalie had more goals than a 92. After Joudrey, I have Berno Grubauer, who is an 82 RW PWF with A A- B potential. Providing I can keep him, he will be Landeskog's replacement. Hopefully
As I stumble forward, I fearfully await the retirement of my stars. Allen is approaching 38, and the youngest of my other crew is Pitkanen at 31. The inevitability of this will free up cap space, but will leave me lacking everywhere.
I might post a roster, but the remainder of my roster essentially does nothing and changes yearly.

Well. The salary cap has officially decimated my team. Before I get into the details, here is my roster:
The salary cap is really pressuring me, and with Hall's contract up next year, I need to make some radical changes to the lineup to keep him around. I was lucky to lock up Larsson early for 7 years, so he is only at 5M for the next 3 seasons. Pitkanen is expensive, however I believe him and Larsson are an excellent duo that I would like to stay together for a long time. His contract is 8.110M for the 6 years, so hopefully he should be a lock on the d-unit. Stovin was a young prospect who had a lot of potential, and there were very high expectations of him. After his rookie contract, I signed him to a 6 year deal for only 3.910M, which, right now is an absolute steal, as he is an 88 with B- B- C potential. This contract comes off in 3 years, and I am very worried I won't be able to keep him. I have Jake Allen signed through 2024-2025, so he should be able to hold the fort until I get a solid bluechip prospect. Franklin Lupul is another defenseman who I believe will be with me for a while, providing I can keep him. He is rated 85 overall, with B potential across the board. He is currently signed for 4.885M for the next three seasons.
Last year was an enormous success, as the Toronto Maple Leafs lifted the cup for the third time in the last 7 years. There were also outstanding personal performances, notably by the first line as Nugent-Hopkins set career highs in goals and assists (29g,95p), Landeskog set career highs in goals, assists, points and PIM (34g,55a,89p,104pim). The best performance however, was by Taylor Hall. He set career highs across the board like Landeskog (45g,65a,110p,64pim) as well as taking home some hardware. He brought home the: Art Ross, Hart, Conn Smythe and Ted Lindsay awards. Jake Allen also won his first Vezina and his third William Jennings Awards.
As I embark on a journey for Stanleys Cup, I will update on most games I play, however, I often am at my cottage (hence the name), so I will have no way to update those.
Game 1:
Our offense completely overwhelmed Winnipeg's lack of goaltending. Most of the offense was coming off the boards and into the slot. We were facing a number of familiar faces as the Winnipeg Jets have been a valuable trading partner. The first line flexed their offensive muscles and showed what they can do against poor defense and goaltending.
