I had 2 years of college at the University of Tennessee...but I took a job as a game tester in 2000 and dropped out because I knew I had found my dream profession.
Nowadays there are many other ways other than testing...there are colleges that offer direct game design degrees that are very good. Places like Georgia Tech or Carnegie Mellon are great.
