Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter had a decent outing, pitching 3 hitless innings, before giving up 2 runs in the 4th. Scott Linebrink replaced him in the 7th, giving up one run. He was replaced by Fernando Salas in the 8th. Salas pitched into the 10th, being replaced by Jason Motte with 0 outs and the bases loaded. Motte failed to get an out, ultimately giving up the run that won the game for Miami.
On the offensive side of things, the Cardinals had a good outing. The first run came on a solo blast by the pitcher Carpenter. David Freese had 2 solo shots, including the one that pushed the game into the 10th. Unfortunately, this was not enough to win.
