Browns D Holds on for W Despite Questionable Playcalling
The Cleveland Browns have won their season opener in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans 20-13. They relied heavily on their defense, who didn't surrender a TD until 2:20 left in the game. With what looked like the game put away, the Browns had the ball and a 20-6 lead with 4:45 seconds to play. After a 4 yard run by Kareem Hunt to set up a 2nd and 6, Baker Mayfield dropped back to pass and threw an interception to Titans linebacker Brennan Scarlett. This allowed the Titans to take advantage of the short field and find the end zone on a 34 yard TD pass from Marcus Mariota to A.J. Brown. After a 3-and-out and a shanked punt, the Titans took back possession with their sights on tying the ballgame with 1:48 to play. Despite a valiant effort by the Titans offense, which drove down to the 10-yard line, the Browns D was able to get the 4th down stop with a Denzel Ward pass deflection in the endzone with just 9 seconds to play.

There are high hopes for this years' Browns squad after high expectations were not met last season. Following the 6-10 campaign, the Browns hope to push for a playoff position this season. QB Baker Mayfield looked great in his one chance to shine during week 3, completing 20 of 27 passes for 243 yards and 3 TDs while not turning the ball over. The Browns also saw a heavy dose of free agent signing backup QB Chase Daniel who showed he can manage the offense if needed. It looks as if Taysom Hill, also a free agent signee from New Orleans will make the final roster as the 3rd QB.

BEREA - The Cleveland Browns have unveiled their highly anticipated new uniforms for the 2020 season (and beyond). They are highlighted in a series of snapshots from star offensive players Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield, and Odell Beckham Jr. The new home uniform, worn by Mayfield will feature a brown jersey with orange and white stripes on the sleeves that resemble the home jerseys worn by the club prior to the 2015 season. It will be paired with white pants that feature orange and brown stripes down the sides and white socks, also with orange and brown striping. The away uniform, seen below on star wideout OBJ will feature a white jersey with brown numbers and orange and brown sleeve stripes. Again, these jerseys look very similar to those worn by the team prior to the 2015 season. The white top will be paired with brown pants that were taken from the 2019 color rush uniform and paired with white socks that feature orange and brown striping that mirrors the sleeve stripes. Perhaps the most shocking uniform combination unveiled is that found on halfback Nick Chubb. The team will feature a monochrome orange look, that pairs the orange helmet with an orange jersey stylized in the Browns 2015-2019 jersey style, emblazoned with "Cleveland" in large white font across the chest. The team will pair these jerseys with orange pants that also resemble those worn by the team from 2015-2019, just they will be orange (instead of white). The pants feature the word "Browns" up the side leg striping. They will pair this with orange and white socks that have brown and white stripes. All pictures are below.
The team's owner released the following statement:
"We our proud of the Cleveland Browns heritage, and that is why we have decided to turn our attention to our past when designing these new uniforms. The motto we rolled with during this process was 'let the past lead us into the future.' As a result, you see a modern spin on our classic jersey sets for home and away, and our new orange color rush set pays tribute to where this team just came from in terms of uniforms. In early release testing, the fans have loved this orange set. We will be wearing these each time we play a home game in primetime going forward. If we are playing an away primetime game, the white pants shown on our home uniform will be paired with our away white jersey, for an all-white look!"

BEREA - The Cleveland Browns made a big splash in the defensive free-agent market during the league's first days of free agency, with the signing on All-Pro MLB Myles Jack. Jack, who will enter his 5th NFL season played his initial 4 years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This past season he recorded 116 tackles, including 9 for loss, 2 sacks, and 3 interceptions. The Browns were looking to fill the hole left in the middle of their defense by the departing Joe Schobert, and it looks like they have in a big way!
BEREA - Despite the Cleveland Browns not having a head coach yet, it was business as usual for the professional football team on the heels of Super Bowl LIV as they have announced some player transactions. The following has happened in the past 24-hours regarding the team's roster:
C J.C. Tretter - Turned down a 2 year - $12.7M offer to test FA
WR Rashard Higgins - Re-Signs with Browns on 2 year - $8.3M deal
LB Joe Schobert - Turned down a 4 year - $27M offer to test FA
HB Kareem Hunt - Browns place Franchise Tag on the HB
SS Justin Burris - Re-Signs with Browns on 1 year - $1.5M deal
FS Damarious Randall - Turned down a 2 year - $12.9M offer
FS Eric Murray - Re-Signed with Browns on 2 year - $3.26M deal
WR Antonio Callaway - Released from the team
TE Demetrius Harris - Released from the team
LT Greg Robinson - Released from the team
LB Christian Kirksey - Released from the team
CB TJ Carrie - Released from the team
The Browns will not enter into contract discussions with: SS Jermaine Whitehead, HB Dontrell Hilliard, and LT Justin McCray.
Many of the moves were to clear up space to hopefully make a big splash in the upcoming free agency.

Browns Finish Season at 6-10, Fire HC Freddie Kitchens
The Cleveland Browns announced today they have parted ways with 1st-year head coach Freddie Kitchens. Kitchens took over the reins of the Browns franchise in 2019 after a meteoric rise in 2018, which saw him go from Runningbacks Coach, to Offensive Coordinator mid-season. The Browns management cited Kitchens's great relationship with young QB Baker Mayfield as to why he was given the head coaching job. Unfortunately for Kitchens and the Browns, 2019 was nothing like the experts predicted. The season was largely highlighted by discipline issues and what insiders have reported as a divided locker room, with some loyal to Kitchens, while others feeling like the game planning and weekly preparation was disorganized. It seems Browns' management agrees with the latter, as they mentioned both the lack of on-field discipline and the disorganization as reasons why they have fired Kitchens. The Browns will now conduct their 2nd head coaching search in as many years, as the rest of the NFL prepares for the Playoffs.
I am going to run a Cleveland Browns franchise on Madden 20. I am simulating the 2019 season and forcing the appropriate win/loss for teams each week during the simulation. The Chiefs will win the Super Bowl over the 49ers, just like in real life. From the end of the 2019 season is where this franchise will take a turn towards the fantasy. Obviously, FA signings, draft order, etc. will all be up to the Madden gods at that point.
Wish me luck in the attempted rebuild of the Cleveland Browns!
