“Our second full game with the PISTOL offense installed and we get win number four,” said Coach Express after the 38-28 win over rival Kansas.
On the first play of the game, MIZ CB, Josh Parrish, intercepted Jayhawks QB, Cameron Miller. This gave the Tigers a short field which was capped off by a 1 yard run by MIZ QB Dallas Franks. MIZ 7, Kansas 0. On the ensuing drive, Kansas responded with a TD pass tying the game at 7-7. MIZ punted and Kansas drove the field scoring on a TD run to take a 13-7 lead, PAT missed.
In the second quarter, Mizzou scored twice, once on a TD pass from Franks to WR Davis and then on a 2 yard plunge by HB Flowers, taking a 21-13 lead at the half.
At 5:16 remaining in the third, MIZ took a 28-13 lead after QB Franks threw a TD pass to WR Martin from 15 yards. Kansas countered with a TD run by HB Whitacker, 28-20, MIZ. MIZ QB Franks suffered a shoulder injury on the last play of the third quarter. He was out for the game. MIZ backup QB Waters entered the game.
The fourth quarter got a little tight for the Tigers as Kansas played tougher defense and moved the ball on offense. Kansas tied the game at 28-28 after recovering a fumble for TD. The 2 pt conversion was good.
With 3:07 remaining in the game, QB Waters found WR Luke Williams open on a drag route for a 9 yard TD pass. MIZ took a 35-28 lead.
MIZ defense held strong and the offense capped the game with a 40 yard FG sealing the victory 38-28.
QB Franks finished the game 21/34 265 2TD 1INT, 1 rush TD. WR Howard lead the Tigers with 7 receptions for 139 yards, WR Martin had 9 rec. 107 yards 1 TD. HB Joey Flowers lead the rushing attack with 15 carries for 56 yards and 1 TD.
Missouri moves to 4-0 (1-0) on the season with a home game vs. Nebraska next week.
