After acquiring Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith from the Nuggets just before the trade deadline, the Washington Wizards just missed the playoffs despite going on a 22-6 run to finish the season.
The Boston Celtics went on to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in five games for the NBA Title. The Spurs upset the defending champion LA Lakers in a 7-game series in the Western Conference Finals, while the Celtics surprisingly shut out the Lebron James-led Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Rajon Rondo won the Finals MVP, nearly averaging a triple-double in the playoffs with 15.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 11.5 apg, and 3.3 spg.

Nets Deal Stale, Wizards Zero In On Melo
Rumors including Gilbert Arenas and future draft picks for Nuggets star
With the Nets unable to reach a deal in a 3-way trade with the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets to receive Carmelo Anthony, it appears the Wizards have closed in on the unhappy star.
The trade seems reasonable for both sides, especially for Carmelo Anthony who has been open about his desire to return to the east coast and play closer to home- Baltimore, Maryland- just 40 miles from Washington, DC.
Melo also has admitted he likes the idea of playing with his childhood hero Michael Jordan and a potential future All-NBA point guard John Wall.
Denver would most likely receive guard Gilbert Arenas- a former All-Star that could benefit from a fresh start- along with a role player such as Al Thornton and one or more draft picks.

With the addition of Michael Jordan to the Wizards roster, coach Flip Saunders announced that they would go with a three-guard line-up with MJ, Gilbert Arenas, and rookie John Wall at the point. Saunders has said he wants to run and play an exciting brand of basketball.
Asked his thoughts on the looks of his Wizards team on paper with the release of the 2011 roster, Jordan said
"I'm coming back to teach these guys how to win, and win the right way. I also have my own goal to win at least one more ring. I've got my six, but Kobe's gettin' too close," Jordan said with that all-too familiar sly grin on his face. "I figure I've got 5 good years left, and I'm gonna make the most of them."
The 35-year old star has been out of the game for a couple years, but says he maintained his rigorous workout schedule during the brief retirement.
Wiz Owner Returns To Lead Team Into New Era
Top Pick Wall To Be Air Apparent
Disclaimer: This is my prelude to the NKA 2k11 Association I'll be starting on October 5th with the Washington Wizards. Because Michael Jordan and John Wall are by far my favorite players of all time, and both will be prominently introduced to my favorite basketball series of all time this year, I knew exactly what I wanted to do on this year's re-vamped Association mode:
SEE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO SEE JOHN WALL AND MICHAEL JORDAN PLAY ON THE SAME COURT TOGETHER.
And because Air Jordan already has a connection to the Wizards - having been a majority owner/player at the tail end of his career - I figured it would be a believable enough scenario in my mind to play as MJ coming out of retirement to mentor his brand new top draft pick, who happens also happens to be the top prospect to come out of the state of North Carolina since his Airness.
I'll be back with more stories soon enough. I'm looking forward to it.

ARKANSAS WINS 2ND NATIONAL TITLE IN 2012
Senior QB Mallett leads Razorbacks past OU
Ryan Mallett had the game of a lifetime in the BCS National Championship, going 26-35 for 381 yards and 6 touchdown passes. The Razorbacks finish the season 14-0, winning their second national title 48 years after the school's first in 1964. The win was head coach Bobby Petrino's first national championship.
The game was close through-out, with the score 28-21 in Arkansas' favor heading into the 4th. But after a quick 16-yard TD catch by Jarius Wright put them up 2 scores early in the final period, a Darius Winston interception on the next Oklahoma possession set them up inside the 10-yard line leading to a TD reception by Greg Childs, ultimately sealing the Razorbacks' victory.
The Razorbacks will technically be sharing the national title, however, as Miami also finished the season undefeated, going 14-0 after beating Boise State in the Orange Bowl.
Randall Cobb Wins The Heisman
Kentucky Athlete Defies Odds To Win Award
After being snubbed by hometown school Tennessee coming out of high school, the underrated 3* recruit chose Kentucky and vowed to prove all of his doubters wrong. After four incredible years for the University of Kentucky, he made his point by being awarded the coveted Heisman trophy.
Cobb, primarily a Wide Receiver, has worn many hats in his 4 years at UK. As a freshman he played QB to fill in for injured starter Mike Hartline. He then moved to WR the rest of his carreer, but also returned punts and kicks, played some running back, as well as ran the effective "WildCobb" formation, a variation of the popular Wildcat.
Cobb wins the Heisman Award after leading his Wildcats to two straight SEC Championship game and Capital One Bowl appearances. While the Cats couldn't get over the hump to win the SEC title, both games were close, losing to Alabama in OT in 2011, and by a touchdown to eventual national championship Arkansas this season.
Cobb went out with a bang in the Capital One Bowl, rushing for 123 yards and 3 TD's, 4 receptions for 88 yards, and completing one pass for 17 yards. The Wildcats defeated Ohio State by a score of 37-7, finishing the season 12-2.
Cobb's senior year stats:
Receiving: 69 rec., 1278 yds, 12 TD
Rushing: 114 attempts, 730 yds, 12 TD
Passing: 7-15, 68 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Kick Return: 540 yds, 21.6 yard avg.
Punt Return: 345 yds, 9.6 yard avg., 1 TD

So, that leaves the Cats with a 6-1 record, 3-1 in SEC play. The win at LSU was huge as the Tigers held UK to just 190 yards of total offense, but the Cats were able to eek out a victory due in large part to turnovers: LSU had 3, UK 0.
Randall Cobb has been the top Heisman candidate all season so far, with 39 rec. for 756 yds and 9 TD's at WR, 328 yds and 4 TD's rushing, and 51 yards and 1 TD on 6-11 passing, as well as returning kicks and punts (no TD's yet though).
Cobb has taken an even larger role than expected in the rushing game, after Jr. HB Donald Russell was declared out for the season with a broken collar bone suffered in game 2 against WKU. So. HB Jonathan George has shown some promise stepping in (147 yds in OT win vs. Ole Miss) but has also had some clunkers (17 yds in loss to UGA).
The team defense has been excellent against the run (#14 in nation), but terrible against the pass (#114).
Looking Ahead
Obviously, the Cats are in great shape right now to make a return trip to the SEC Championship. Despite losing to East Division rival Georgia, the Bulldogs helped the Cats out by losing their next game. These next two games against Mississippi State - a team that shocked UK with a win at home late last season - and then at home against Florida, are crucial.

I am currently in my second year of my dynasty on NCAA 11. Last season I controlled the Kentucky Wildcats as new head coach Joker Phillips, leading the Cats to a 10-4 record with close losses in the SEC Championship to Alabama in OT, and to Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl. Junior Wide Receiver Randall Cobb earned All-American honors amassing nearly 2,000 total yards and 20 TD's. Here's a review of the 2011 season:

2012 Season Begins
For the 2012 season I chose to start up with Charlie Strong at Louisville (7-6 in 2011) and former Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino at Arkansas (8-5 in 2011).
Louisville coach Charlie Strong had a solid showing his first season, getting the Cards back above .500 and to a bowl game. Though still re-building, they should be improved in 2012 with some young talent returning and coming in. Freshman QB DaMarcus Smith (74 ovr), a hometown kid from Seneca HS, looks to challenge former walk-on Jr. Will Stein (77 ovr)- another hometown product out of Trinity HS- for the starting job.
Returning for the Cardinals is Sr. HB Victor Anderson (91 ovr), a solid group of WR's, and on defense USC transfer MLB Jordan Campbell (82 ovr) returns for his Sr. year and super So. FS Demar Dorsey (80 ovr) looks to lead the pass D.
The Cards are rated a C+ ovr by ESPN and are picked to finish 4th in the Big East behind West Virginia, Cincinatti, and Rutgers.
Arkansas is coming off a disappointing season though they won a bowl game. But expectations were higher with top QB Ryan Mallett and a solid receiving corps around him, but the good news is they're all coming back. Mallett (99 ovr) will have a bevy of options at his disposal, led by Sr. WR Greg Childs (95 ovr) and Sr. Joe Adams (93 ovr).
The Razorbacks are rated a solid B+ ovr, with A ovr on OFF and B+ on DEF. They're picked to finish 3rd in the SEC West behind Alabama and Ole Miss.
Kentucky is ready for a break-out season after finally getting over the hump with wins over Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee and nearly winning the SEC Championship against Alabama.
The Cats return Heisman candidate Sr. WR Randall Cobb (94 ovr) and Jr. QB Morgan Newton (86 ovr). Jr. HB Donald Russell (80 ovr) steps in for All-SEC talent Derrick Locke, while Jr. WR LaRod King (83 ovr) looks to step into the WR2 spot after a solid sophomore campaign.
The defense took a big hit losing Jr. OLB Danny Trevathan to the NFL Draft, but So. Qua Huzzie (81 ovr) and Jr. Ridge Wilson (74 ovr) look to step up. Sr. MLB Ronnie Sneed (83 ovr) returns after a break-out junior season. Sr. FS Winston Guy (91 ovr) looks to have his break-out year after missing 7 games in 2011.
The Cats are rated B ovr with B+ OFF and B- DEF. They're picked to finish 3rd in the SEC East behind South Carolina and Georgia.
I'll be back with updates on the 2012 season soon...

I knew about John Wall when he was a junior in high school. He was already billed as the "next great star" in the basketball world at that time. I dreampt of seeing him wearing the blue and white. The only problem? At that time, we had no shot at him.
That is, until John Calipari was hired. The rest, as they say, is history. John Wall was followed by a slew of top recruits, forming arguably one of the greatest recruiting classes of all time. Wall and fellow top recruit DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins instantly became my favorite duo, and teamed up with veteran Patrick Patterson and the rest of the young guns, quickly became my favorite UK team of all time.
The "Kitty Cats" stormed through the regular season, dropping just two games and winning the regular season and SEC tournament titles. Unfortunately, the season that was too good to be true ended up to be just that. Kentucky lost in an immensely disappointing Elite 8 match-up to a tough, defensive-minded West Virginia team that could not miss a shot from three all game.
This blog is my nerdy attempt to make right what was ruined by West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament last year. Enjoy...
