Flacco's new deal
Posted on March 1, 2013 at 10:46 PM.
Here's my list of top QBs in the NFL today. Joe Flacco has agreed to a 6 year 120M contract making him the highest paid player in league history, not bad for a guy who turned down a 6 year 60M contract last offseason! Hes the highest paid QB for right now, bc Ryan and Rodgers are both going to get more. Flacco DOUBLED his value by winning 1 Super Bowl! For a guy who got knocked out the top 15 QB by rookies, he's the highest paid player in NFL history yet hes NEVER throw for 4000 yards, or thrown for 30 TDs. Even though he's always had a great D until this year, and always has weapons around him, yet he still hasn't turned into the elite QB he claims to be.

Now you have to look at how his contract hurt his team. Brady and Big Ben have restructured there contracts to help there team, and Brees is willing to soon to help his team get under the cap. Brady freed up 20M this year, Ben helped get under the cap bc the size of there deals. Now there going to struggle resigning there players, they now cant afford Reed who looks like hes leaving, Birk retired, Lewis retired, the Ravens announced before the Super Bowl they will release Boldin this offseason, they dont have much wiggle room to pay Kruger his big bucks coming, or hes gone. Ellerby needs to be paid, Pita needs to be paid or risk losing him. The Ravens and Flacco wanted it to be his team, well NOW IT IS! You wanted to be the guy, well looks like it time to put your money where your mouth is, bc they could have one of the worst Ds next year, even worse than this year, going to lose your best players, and release your best WR, and risk losing others.

This contract reminds me of a No1 overal pick before the new CBA, if he doesnt become the guy they expect him to be, they risk the chance of driving this franchise into the ground for the next decade. For there sake i hope it works out.

This is by far the dumbest deal I have ever seen. Yeah he won them a Super Bowl, but he hasn't earned $20 million a year! They will be restructuring this contract in a year or two.

As a Pats fan, im glad he got paid. Looks like Reed is soon to be a Pat Plus with the 20M he saved, with the 13 we already had, we can sign Osi, which they tried to get last year, still bring back Talib and Welker and still have enough money for Bowe or Wallace. Yes they will have to redo his deal, bc there going to be hurting for cap space. Very soon there going to be like the Steelers and Jets, cant resign your players bc your over the cap. However with there best players retiring or leaving in FA, they look more like the screwed up Jets. If they dont start drafting better, the next 10 years for the Ravens will look like NYJ now especially is Flacco doesnt improve. And how much can he improve, hes 27 and still isnt that great, i listed him as No 20 Qb

As a Steelers fan I'm fine with them losing all these players. Hopefully we can get some young guys in so that we don't fall apart every season and can make some more deep runs.

False. These are largely misconceptions.

A). The first year of Flacco's new deal is only a cap hit of $6.8 million. Totally crippling....not. And while it does jump to 29 mil in the 4th year, I'd say it's pretty clear it will be renegotiated before then. The 62 mil guaranteed can be eye popping, but unless you're Tom Brady, very little money is truly guaranteed in the NFL.

B). Your QB tiers must be a joke, right? I mean, seriously.

C). You must be misinformed, as Boldin is one of the top priority players to be kept. Birk and Ray Lewis retiring have absolutely zero to do with any of this, that just clears more cap room for young replacements. Ellerbe is likely going to be back. Reed has been one of my favorites, but he's old and past his prime. Not to mention, just because kooky old Ed Reed says he would play for the Pats doesn't mean it's going to happen. He's said a lot of things, and very well could end up back with Baltimore. Krueger is good and all, but he'll end up getting overpaid and I can't say I'm going to miss him that much. As a Patriots fan, you should know how good Baltimore's front office is at drafting, developing talent, and finding cheap and effective replacements.

By no means am I suggesting there's going to be a repeat Super Bowl run, I highly doubt it, but I find it laughable the way you're acting like this is the beginning of the end.

Flacco is better than Eli and the Giants gave him $16.25 million a year back in 2009. Eli's best QB rating was a 77 his first four year and Flacco's career QB rating is 4 points higher. He's won a Superbowl and gotten to the playoffs every year he's been in the league.

The truth is if he played in NY he would have a much higher profile. With his age he's one of the few QBs in the league that would get a $120/6 year deal. Peyton and Brees wouldn't get it. It's the market and Flacco is better than most of you guys think.

Boldin is GONE! Reed looks like he's leaving for NE, Ellerby looks like hes going to the Browns, not the Ravens, Kruger looks like a bidding war between the Colts and Browns.

So your WRing core is average at best, LB have none to speak of soon, Overpaid your QB, Secondary is taking multiple hits, , and DL is getting older.

Prediction 6-10. Lol and the best part of this offseason for BAL is that if Flacco doesn't become who he already thinks he is, BAL can let him go after 3 years and not take a huge cap hit.

And look at list of QB in the NFL. Flacco was #16 on several of them. Wilson, Luck, RG3, and definitely Kapernick all showed signs of becoming a top 10 QB as young players, something Flacco also known as Flucco to some, have never in his young career, shown that ability!
