Tecmo Throwback Season Just For Fun

Not going to put this in the dynasty section. But just for fun, I am going to play a season of Tecmo Throwback. I am not going to control a single team but will pick a game or two each week to play based on matchups and what teams I think will be fun to play with. Ideally I will get at least one game in with each team, but who knows.

The Blog is just for my own enjoyment and maybe for the enjoyment of some of the other old timers out there who remember when this game was new and these players were the players in the league.

It's not going to be fancy, just some quick rundowns and maybe a quick summary.

The first matchup will feature Dan Marino and his Miami Dolphins against the Jim Kelly led Buffalo Bills.

Yeah dude, it's a blast.. So fun to use the old school players. Plus your team is the team to beat. Aikman, Irvin, Emmiit, Moose, Novacek, etc.

Finished my first season in competitive mode a couple of days ago. Very fun. Sounds like you're going to be playing casual if you're going to pick teams as you go along. Definitely a VERY fun game. Simple, elegant, but most F U N.

I played this game a ton because of the team it had for that year (the Bolts of course). I loved the thunder & lighting combo of Marion Butts & Ronnie Harmon.

It is too bad Ronnie was a bit stiffed on his stats because I could not run him a ton with great results. I would sub him out in a slot where I had him in one running play and mainly run Butts. But I made sure to throw to Harmon a lot so as to rack up his receptions.

I always tried to get Butts his 100 yards a game (that's a given) but I would always try to get a few touches for Ronnie each game as well. On defense I always played as Seau. Not sure who the third back was (probably Rod Bernstein) but I only used him if Butts or Harmon were injured.

Whenever Butts was listed as in "good" shape or better I'd run him a ton and rack up them ridiculous running games yardage wise.

Once I purchased the game on XBL I could not believe how I remembered all my old favorite plays that I used, good times.

I just recently played through a whole season on Tecmo Bowl for NES. What a great experience. Fun. Obviously not a wealth of diversity in the gameplay, but you know what you are going to get. I love the dumbed down arcade sports games like Konami Give N Go, SNK Golf, etc.
