My Problem with Nintendo

Over the last few weeks, I have been reading about how Nintendo does not feel that consumers (gamers) DON'T want an HD Wii. Reggie Fils Aime keeps saying that it is something that is not needed. I feel that gamers disagree....and so do Devs. One would think that Nintendo learned from their Gamecube failures...and that they would want to actually have more mature games on the Wii, which is not a bad system, it is just a home for Shovelware.

The Wii has so much potential with it's controls, but the addition of HD and the ability to play DVDs would have been a huge addition. PS3 and 360 are good systems that have wifi/HD graphical capabilities/mature content and family content. etc etc. While leading the way in sales, the Wii seems content to just come in last place when it comes to 3rd Party Development of games. Modern Warfare 2 in HD Graphics with Wii controls may have been brilliant...BUT we will never know because of Corporate Greed. I am convinced that Nintendo Wii could have games with stick figures and as long as it is selling millions upon millions, they would be content with it.

I get tired of playing Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Donkey Kong IPs.....its the same game over and over again. Nothing revolutionary at all. And it's sad because the Big N used to produce several Killer Apps....but now all we have to wait on is trashy remakes. Where is Nintendos answer to Gears of War 2.....Halo (didn't Iwata say he could have designed Halo...well Why didn't you? Surely not because it would bore all the millions of its fans....).....Resistance: Fall of Man...Uncharted 1 & 2, God of War 3???

My answer: Nintendo is a victim of foolish Pride. Is there a way to have Wii Fit and Mature Content on the same system as Mario...of course! It would be icing on the cake...but Reggie and Iwata are unwilling to broaden their horizons and expand their fanbase: Hardcore gamers. If the Big N had HD, they would easily win over this crowd. Instead they continue to produce the same games over and over again. Eventually they may end up like Sega....out of the Gaming Hardware business. I hope they step up and remember us Hardcore gamers too! Some of us like nice graphics...Until then its back and forth between 360 and PS3 for me!!!

Not to mention I dream about the way sports games could play out on the Wii....Madden 08 should have been the beginning of something GREAT and Innovative.....Golfing should be a fan favorite.......B-Ball should not look like Sega Genesis....aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggh!

I will agree with you about the golf. I always buy Tiger Woods on the Wii. I have to choose controls over graphics - it would be great if I could have both.

@22cowboys22: Great point....Wii sports was one of the best games I've ever played on the Wii.....and thats a real issue. Especially since it has been a long time since the system has been out.

THe Biggest Problem I have with Nintendo is the fact that they seem to not care about what the hardcore gamers think. They have continuously ignored us the last 3 Generations...SMH
