Some of the Most Interesting Teams in Madden 16 CFM
Posted on August 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
When choosing a team for Connected Franchise Mode (other than your favorite team of course), what do you look for? Do you find the team currently most poised for a Dynasty run like the Packers or Seahawks? Sure, you may get to the Super Bowl with a bit of ease, but what is sports without a little bit of drama. Maybe you choose a rebuilding team like the Titans and build your future around your franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota? But perhaps you don’t like doing too much work to make your team a winner or needing to add a lot more pieces. Well let’s meet in the middle. Let us take a look at some of the most interesting teams to take control of in CFM in Madden 16 this year.

Miami Dolphins

Miami arguably made the biggest news this offseason when they signed the best Defensive Tackle in the league in Ndamukong Suh to a massive contract. He adds to an already top-rated defense from last year (until they collapsed at the end of the season due to injuries) and with Suh lined up right next to Cameron Wake along with Olivier Vernon on the other end, you can cause massive damage with this defensive line for years to come. Find a few supporting characters to develop and go along with Grimes, Reshad Jones, Koa Misi, and Jelani Jenkins and you’re looking pretty much dominant.

Now let’s take a look on the other side of the ball. With Ryan Tannehill freshly off his new extension, the Dolphins have finally found the QB they have been waiting for since Dan Marino retired (yeah, it’s been that long.). Take the next step into developing him to becoming an Elite Quarterback in Madden with the wide range of new toys he has at his disposal. Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, Jordan Cameron, and not to forget the ‘AJ Green clone’ of Devante Parker, will be ready to help you take Tannehill to the next level. Just be sure to get him some interior linemen (Evan Mathis, anyone?) to help protect him, as #17 remains the most sacked quarterback in the league since 2012.

With a new stadium on the horizon, a coach on the hot seat, and the imminent effect of father time taking over Brady and the Patriots, the Dolphins are primed to become the new king of the AFC East sooner rather than later in a CFM near you.

Kansas City Chiefs

With the recent news of Eric Berry being cleared to return to football, lovers of defense couldn’t have been happier to see one of the best in the game make a comeback this year. The Chiefs’ impressive secondary proved to be a problem for quarterbacks last year, this was WITHOUT Berry and BEFORE they drafted Marcus Peters. The linebacker/pass rushing duo of Tamba Hali and Justin Houston will prove to be a problem as well, but the defensive line needs to provide more production in order for those two to get free. That’s where you come in, develop the young talent or add more proven veterans in the trenches and you will definitely see #50 lead the league again in sacks via your CFM.

Offense on the other hand, is a totally different story. After going the entire 2014 season without a touchdown to a wide receiver, the Chiefs went out and signed Jeremy Maclin to a big contract and drafted former Georgia Bulldog, Chris Conley. While they seemed to have found a future star in Travis Kelce, the passing game still needs work and it all starts with Alex Smith. Ride it out with him until retirement, develop Aaron Murray, or look to the draft/free agency for your answer at quarterback, the choice is yours.

With Peyton Manning inching closer and closer to retirement, the Chiefs are ready to take over the AFC West if you can stay competitive with their tough growing division.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams were involved in one of the biggest trades this offseason sending off what they believed was their franchise quarterback at some point in time in Sam Bradford, to the Eagles. They now have put all their faith in Nick Foles, who many will argue had a bit of an off year in 2014. He will still have to deal with less than reliable receivers in Kenny Britt and Tavon Austin, but the running game will be your strength with this team. Probably one of the most surprising picks of this year’s draft was the selection of Todd Gurley at 10th overall, teaming him up (once he’s healthy) with Tre Mason will open up the play action pass and may give those receivers a little bit more time to get open.

On the defensive side of the ball, there isn’t much to fix or tinker with. St. Louis has arguably the best defensive line in the league along with the supporting cast in the linebacking corps and secondary that can hold their own as well. With the addition of Nick Fairley, the depth at defensive line is more than manageable if a starter goes down to injury.

But ‘the elephant in the room’ is whether or not the Rams will still call St. Louis their home in the next few years. Possibly one of the most popular choices in teams when it comes to CFM Relocation, the “Los Angeles Rams” may be enduring a modern revival to the NFL sooner than you think (or if you choose to name them something else, I personally am a fan of the ‘Aftershocks’). So in the end, break some hearts in St. Louis and start a long-awaited new legacy in L.A. or promise the city of St. Louis the Lombardi Trophy will return to the ‘Gateway City’, the choice is yours. With the 49ers losing numerous talent over the offseason and the Cardinals proving to be a powerhouse of their own, go out and make the Rams competitive again in the NFC West.

Carolina Panthers

Ron Rivera and the Panthers are in “Win Now” mode. Rivera is potentially on the hot seat if he doesn’t produce a winning season this year, making it now or never for the Panthers to take full advantage of this weak NFC South division. The Bucs, Saints, and Falcons are arguably in “rebuilding” mode which makes Carolina primed to dominate the division if they can close out games this year.

With an aging yet dangerous defense lead by Luke Kuechly and newly acquired vet, Charles Tillman, you can definitely terrorize offenses in your CFM. Develop your young defensive line along with bringing in some corners to eventually take over for Tillman once he retires and you may be able to keep Carolina a top rated defense for years to come. But like I mentioned before, this team is in “Win Now” mode and those other aging vets such as Thomas Davis and Roman Harper won’t be around for long. Maybe a trade or two to beef up the secondary or defensive line will help you go just a bit deeper in the playoffs, just don’t forget to help those young depth players, like Shaq Thompson, get some XP as well.

On the opposite side of the ball, Cam Newton leads an offense with more weapons at his disposal. The Panthers drafted former Michigan standout, Devin Funchess, who can bring versatility to the receiving group by being a hybrid tight end/receiver. Put him opposite of Greg Olsen, Kelvin Benjamin, and Ted Ginn, Jr. and you have a pretty decent receiving core to help Newton succeed. But this offense can’t exceed its potential if they continue to have an insufficient run game that won’t compliment their passing. Jonathan Stewart doesn’t seem to be the answer, but there is a number ways you can help your run game over time. Probably my favorite thing to do in a Connected Franchise is draft a running back and develop him into a star if the team needs it. It seems like an ideal case for this team and you can do same, just make sure you scout the right players and to have a line that can open up holes for him.

Whether you’re looking to take over a division, help build a title contender, or move a beloved team to a city that is dying for a team of its own, Connected Franchise Mode this year is filled with so many options for every team. Ultimately, the choice is yours. These were just some teams I found to be in the most interesting situations this year, but be sure to let me know who you think would be an interesting team in CFM this year. Thank you for reading.
