After MLB The Show and NBA 2k, I may give up on EA Football Games
Posted on April 15, 2012 at 08:59 AM.
I bought a PS3 almost 2 years ago for the primary purpose of playing NCAA Football. Since then, I've tried a number of sports games on the console but MLB 12 The Show and NBA 2k (both 11 and 12) have received the most gameplay. Some others that have captured my attention and for which I have no regrets are: FIFA 12, FIFA Street, Fight Night Champion and Top Spin 4. I have purchased Madden 11 and 12 (both of which have been traded in early on) and NCAA Football 11 and 12. I have kept NCAA Football 11 and 12, mainly because I'm into the whole Teambuilder thing / historic teams but it seems I rarely play them. This year, unless NCAA Football gets incredible reviews, I may just forgo the purchase of a football game.

What I have found is that MLB The Show and NBA 2k games have a certain element of fun and excitement that I can't seem to replicate in EA football games, such as the satisfaction of making a great pass or taking the ball to the hoop on NBA 2k or striking out a player on an offspeed pitch or sitting on a fastball and hitting a home run when you're ahead in the count on MLB The Show.

EA Football games just leave me unsatisfied.

Wow, I can't believe you wrote this... I've been thinking the exact same thing for about a month now.

damn, i also feel the same way....i only play mlb the show and nba 2k12. They are both great games especially if you pay attention to the details in the game..To me, when i play madden, i lose interest very quickly maybe just 1 quarter..its likes looking at a repeated show..the same animations, nothing new..Ncaa i do play cause i think its better madden slightly but i do hope they come thru good with ncaa 13

I love NBA 2k 12 wouldn't be cool if while playing a EA football game during a big play (long run, huge hit, or turnover) the sideline would explode like on 2k when someone is dunked on (just watch the bench if you don't know what I mean)

There definitely is a lack of "fun and excitement" to EA's football games. I agree with jaynny15 that NCAA is a bit better than Madden. I don't think I every played a full game on Madden 11 or 12 before I traded them in.

Are you reading this EA?
No of course not.. What was I thinking?

We all say this but then we all buy it anyway. That's why they don't change anything. Seriously, we are talking about Madden in April, when August and the hype start you will buy in.

At least that is what happens to me every year. I think it is mostly because I love the NFL.

This is the year I'm not going to fall for the hype -- I now have enough sports games that I actually like. Heck, I even enjoy playing NHL 2K10 on my XBox and I pretty much despise hockey. Last year I bought NCAA because of the $20 pre-order credit at Amazon and got then caught up in Tebowmania and wanted to play him in Madden.

LOL..... Its because we're all fed up... we've seen what can be and should be done but isn't... NCAA and Madden slams the the same game down our throats over and over.... What makes these games (NBA2K)is the presentation... sure they may have some gameplay problems but when you DON'T HEAR THE SAME LINES 5 times in one game and see/hear the crowd and announcer react to whats happening on the field this makes a huge difference. Both Madden & NCAA feel like the announcers aren't even calling the game that I'm playing sometimes.... I WILL NOT BUY ANY FOOTBALL GAME IF THEY DON'T IMPROVE THEIR PRESENTATION PERIOD!!!!!!!!!

MLB The Show and NBA 2K are games that I can play year-round without forcing myself to play. Madden, I struggle to play more than a few games in Franchise before I lose interest. NCAA tends to last a little longer because of recruiting.

Still, both games lack so much in regards to immersion and presentation compared to the 2 games you're talking about. Weird how EA can have solid crowd noise in NHL but yet it is so lacking in the football games.

the graphics are good, gameplay looks stale... Looks like my football fix will need to come from watching the actual game.
I'm waiting for the day, when real time physics are used, strategies are necessary for winning games, actual presentations from ESPN. Real recruitments were I have to travel to actually watch the game.
I want more realism, and gameplay... this is not cutting it for me.
This is the first year I will not purchase this game at any point. I might have to just purchase mlb 12 the show or nhl 13 later for my sports/management fix. I'm so pissed that no other company can make a nfl/ncaa game... These series are complete garbage... When will they FINALLY listen?
Anyone else saying this is the last straw? Its the only way EA can be affected and changed... stop buying the supply!! force them out.
Its not that hard skipping a game, remember what you fell in love with the first place.. the game itself, college gameday, your college experience. All I ask from my fellow OS's... boycott this game and lets make a difference... If you think I'm crazy then your not the right person for this movement!
