Taking Madden Online Franchise to the next level
Posted on January 30, 2010 at 01:29 PM.
Having commished and played in online leagues for Madden and NFL 2k for nearly 10 years now, this year was certainly an interesting one with the new Online Franchise mode that EA gave us with Madden 10. The Madden Online Franchise mode was groundbreaking for the Madden series though clearly just the beginning of what should be many great things in the coming years. It is undoubtedly a good start, but their are many essential elements that are missing that cripple it's use for more ****** gamers in particular and weaken it's appeal for hardcore leaguers as well.

With that, I present you my blueprint for Madden 11 Online Franchise. Some of these are very small things that could really go along way into making the experience more immersive.

Must have next year:

*Full stats with filters so that you can sort stats by position, week, conference, etc…
*Trade logic and salary cap for cpu and user controlled teams. This is a must. I can't name how many hours I have spent up****** my own spreadsheet that contains our leagues salary cap system.

*Draft class import from NCAA

*Injured reserve

*Real NFL tiebreakers for playoff seeding
or at least commish control to select the playoff teams themselves so that the commish could manually figure it out if they are incorrect.

*In season scouting for college seniors/potential draft picks so that all ratings don’t show unless you scout to figure them out. It would be ideal if ratings still weren’t fully revealed, maybe a letter grade system or something to signify a range rather than exact ratings since scouting in real life isn’t 100% accurate.

* Sliders
!

Online Web Components:
A lot of this is just gravy but should be fairly easy for some of the experienced web designers at EA.

*In game updates with other scores from the franchise while you are playing via a ticker or even better yet, a break into your game that shows a highlight clip uploaded from another game that week with some commentary. IE an in game check-in to a remote game.

*Live scoring/stats similar to Gamecast of a few years back viewable on web/console.

*An area on the homepage that the commish has complete control over so that teams can use html or bbcode to host their own content like previews, power rankings, images etc… A couple different templates to get commishes started would encourage the use of this feature.

*Another option similar to the above attached to each game so that users can submit game summaries.

*An Area where the commish can select from a list of all players and designate AFC and NFC offensive and defensive players of the week. Their selections link a pic and the weeks stats to an area on website with a graphic template already set up.

*An option to “Auto play next highlight” in the video player so that vids will cycle through producing a semi “Plays of the Week” built in.

Commish Options Needed:
- Ability to reset games from the current week that were already played

- Ability to sim results to one teams favor. If nothing else, let them random sim but give the ability to throw those results out so that you could roll the dice to decide winner and select what you want or get a random sim if you wanted that.

-Chain of power for roster moves like trades and free agency. Basically an option to turn on or off that makes it so that all roster moves need commish approval first if the commish desires.

-Ability to designate powers to other users independently, IE give another user power to advance the week only and another guy power to edit the BBCode custom homepage for example.
Powers:
-Advance week
-Edit homepge
-Veto roster moves
-Reset/sim games
-Add/Remove users

Icing on the Cake
- Ability for users that get disconnected to continue a game from the point it lost connection. Wouldn’t seem to hard to set that up off of the Gamecast data that’s already been generated if you had that feature… so that’s 2 birds with a stone and a half right?
