Villanova Blows Big Lead, Loses First Game
In a battle of wildcats, Kentucky comes out victorious. Heading into half time, Villanova looked like they were in good shape to win the Maui Championship. However, they played very poorly down the stretch while Kentucky caught fire. After a turnover by Kentucky and a vicious jam by Sean Webb, Villanova had a 65-50 lead. but Charlie Wheeler and Kentucky came roaring back; they went on a 18-2 run and Charlie hit three 3-pointers on three consecutive possesions and Kentucky took the lead.
Wheeler led a huge comeback for the Wildcats
Villanova fans should be worried after the collapse by the Wildcats, as they didn't make a field goal in over five and a half minutes. Kramer struggled in the second half after having a great first half; only making 2 of the 11 shots he put up. Sean Webb had another great game, scoring 14 points on an efficient 7 for 9 shooting, but it was not enough as the rest of the Wildcats could not score. The bench had another poor performance and it is about time they step up.
Kramer disappeared in the second half of this game
"We definately collapsed, but we had, in my opinion, our best half of basketball of the year in the first half. It is dissapointing that we followed our best half with our worst half, but there are definately good things to take away from this game." Said Jay Wright, the Villanova coach after the game. The Wildcats only have a few more games before they start up conference play, and they look to enter on a positive note. Be sure to tune in.
