Late Collapse Averted, Broncos Survive Sunday Night Comeback from Raiders
Down 21 points at the end of the first half, the Oakland Raiders were determined to not get blown out of Mile High on Sunday night. With Darren McFadden and Jason Campbell leading the charge Oakland managed to put 21 of their own on the board in the second half, and had put Denver deep in their own end forcing a punt which should have resulted in good field position for bionic-legged Sebastian Janikowski. But heartbreak struck Raider Nation when returner Nick Miller failed to call for a fair catch and coughed up the football, leading to the winning TD.
The Broncos, for their part got good performances out of Kyle Orton and their running game. Moreno was the workhorse for Denver, carrying 25 times for 85 yards. Backup HB Willis Mcgahee also contributed with one of the biggest plays of the game - a 41 yard run to get the Broncos out of trouble in their own end. Orton was able to find holes in Oakland's secondary, and hit both Brandon Lloyd and recent FA pickup Antwaan Randle El for TD passes.
Both defenses were solid for the most part with only a handful of big plays in the game. Denver got a couple of timely interceptions from Syd'quan Thompson and Mario Haggan.
Denver welcomes the Cincinnati Bengals to Mile High next week while Oakland looks to rebound against the Buffalo Bills.
