I am outraged. I'm angry and in need of an explanation as to why 2 of the greatest players I've ever seen play did not get into the MLB Hall of Fame. I can understand guys like Roger Clemons and Barry Bonds not getting in, but players that have no link to steroid use, no justifiable evidence for the allegations against them should be in. I think that's a fair and logical way to vote and not vote for a player in the Hall of Fame, though I'm still on the fence with the PED users not getting in issue. So why in the name of the baseball gods did no one get in this year?!
You have Craig Biggio, a player with 3060 hits in his career. Played multiple positions, very consistent numbers, and a spotless image. That's a baseball writers dream inductee so why wasn't he voted in? Then there's Mike Piazza, one of the greatest catchers of all time, with 427 home runs and a .307 career batting average. Fantastic numbers from a relatively uncontroversial player. Add to the list, Jeff Bagwell, Curt Schilling and Kenny Lofton, all players with fantastic careers and no direct links to PED use.
I don't understand the message that the baseball writers were trying to send if they were sending one. It would basically say, "if you play around people who use steroids then you are just as guilty." It's like if a class of 20 students had 10 students get caught cheating on a test. The teacher then says "You're all getting F's for cheating and none of you will pass my class!" even though no one else was caught cheating, and the other students admit, they were not involved. So as a student in that class who didn't cheat, all of your hard work has gone to waste because some other kids in your class did. And they may have offered you to cheat with them, and maybe even one tried to get you falsely accused but your alibi and your line of work shows you did not. But because you were surrounded by cheaters you are now considered a cheater. I'm sorry baseball writers but that is terrible logic and doesn't send a message at all.
Whatever cruel joke this was to take a potentially great Hall of Fame class and turn it into a blank spot on the wall isn't funny and it's gotten old fast.
