The Time for a New 2K Football Game is Now...or Soon at Least

2K Sports was recently handed the number one spot in basketball video games after EA's complete mishandling of NBA Live 13. Now is the perfect time to begin developing a new football game to compete with Madden.

EA's deal with the NFL ends in 2013. Will the NFL immediately say no to an extension on EA's license? No, but a 2K game that sells more than a Madden game would grab the NFL's interest. I firmly believe that if 2K Sports made a football game that played a better game of football than Madden people would jump on it. Granted Madden 13 has been a huge step forward in gaming, it should have happened a long time ago.

There are plenty of gamers out there who hate EA enough to jump on a major label football game of any type. After the NCAA 13 debacle and the recent string of less than stellar Maddens, 2K is in a position to actually make an impact, especially since they've freed up plenty of funds by cancelling their MLB 2K series.

Am I saying this will happen? No. I'm saying this would be the time for 2K to make a new football game. Generic teams, an emphasis on gameplay, and a deep franchise mode much like the legacy mode in College Hoops 2K8 would be a welcome change from the usual Madden series. A similar mode to my player would be needed but I think with a smoother and better gameplay than Madden 2K Sports could compete with EA and force better football games to be made, like in the glory days of the early 2000's.
