Bush should have kept his Heisman
Posted on September 17, 2010 at 10:20 AM.
I for one was completely shocked Reggie gave up his trophy. While he was in the wrong for doing what he did at USC, that does not take away the fact that he was the best player on the field that year. The guy was a complete monster, and you cannot simply forget what he did for his team that year. Taking performance enhancing drugs is one thing, but that was not the case with Bush. He was a naturally gifted player for USC, and won by a landslide in the voting against Vince Young.

What do you guys think of Bush vacating the award?

I don't believe it was his decision to do so. He felt the pressure of the Heisman committee. Do you honestly believe they wouldn't have taken it away from him within a matter of weeks? If it were his choice, I'm sure he'd still have it. He won't even admit guilt, which tells me enough. Yes he was the best football player that year, but it doesn't matter if he's ineligible. If the committee wants to take away his award, they have the right to do so; it's their award.

Honestly, if the committee would have put a vote out to previous heisman award winners as to if bush should give up the award, I think they would have voted no. Every past winner that has spoken up about the subject feels bush should keep it. I have to agree.

First, I think saying "every past winner has spoken up" is a bit of an overstatement. Secondly, who says it'd be up to them? They aren't privy to know all of the violations he committed, other than what they hear on ESPN. None of us are informed enough to know pricesly what should be done. Our opinions on the subject don't really mean diddily, unless we know exactly what the NCAA has proven he did that season.

Well my statement was actually, "Every past winner THAT HAS spoken up, not every winner has spoken up" The gist of the violation is pretty much he took money when he wasn't supposed to. Nothing too complicated about that. While that is something he should not have done, the guy still played that particular year, and should not have to give up an award he won by a milestone.

Bush should also not be absolved for his mistakes, but there are other forces in this situation as well. USC should pay back the money he made them that year from Jersey sells; we should hear an apology from his parents, the same folks who took the money knowing the repercussions; and there needs to be a crackdown on the agents that allowed for this situation to even happen.

My point is that we can't take always take down just the player and not expect it to happen again. While players are part of the problem, we need to focus on the enablers of the corruption in college sports in order to try to solve this problem for good.

weather he gave it back or not i will always remember what reggie bush did during his time at usc. He did not take any performance enhancing drugs or anything that helped him on the field. So i will always remember him as the best running back on this past decade and one of the most electrifying running backs to ever watch in college football

It's too late to make things right at this point, he probably should have just kept it. He was the best player that year by a long shot regardless of his eligibility status. You can't give it to VY or anyone else so what is the point of having a blank space in the record book?

If the Heisman committee wanted to make an example of someone, they had their chance with Orenthal. I'm disturbed by this notion of "being a good guy" that the Baseball Hall of Fame selection committee has been able to create over the last decade. Just because a guy lied doesn't erase the fact that he was there and played a career's worth of games. Same kind of deal here. Reggie broke the rules off the field, not on it.

I am in the minority here but, I am glad that he gave it back. I thik that they should give it to Vince Young.

it should be hanging over his bed as we speak.

I agree she should have kept it. This doesn't change what happened and honestly many 21 year olds are easily led wrong if the people around them who they trust (parents, coaches) lead them in the wrong direction. I wouldn't blame him if he told the Heismen committee that they'd get it back over his cold dead body.

honestly, that award is given to the best college player and he was but the past few trophy winners have done nothing in the NFL. If you ask me he is better off without it, it will make him run faster, because before he returned it he look like he was slooooow(he look like USC Reggie against 49ers)
