THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

KANSAS CITY, MO - Boston continues to roll, dominating opponents with defense and pitching. Chris Archer would get the nod today against a familiar foe in James Shields. Shields has had some success against the Red Sox, and this lineup might be susceptible to being shut out.

Things got tense in the 2nd when the Royals managed to load the bases, but Archer went to his slider-fastball combo to get out of the jam. As expected, this game was a pitching masterpiece from both starters. Fans of pitching and defense would have loved this game, fans of hitting would have left before anything happened offensively.

It took 7 innings for someone to score, and it was the Red Sox that put an end to Shields' shutout. Boston finally got a rally together on Shields and put a man on 1st and 3rd with no outs before manager Ned Yost pulled Shields for Luis Ayala. Ayala pitched well, but Mookie Betts hit a towering fly ball to CF for a sac fly that would easily score Blake Swihart from 3rd.

A big day for Swihart would fuel the Red Sox offense.

Xander Bogaerts made it 2-0 in the 8th with a solo-HR, and then Leonys Bravo closed it out in the 9th for his 6th save. Archer finished the game by allowing only 2 hits and 3BB on his way to a 5th win.
