THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)
ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Just a little over a month left to go and Boston hit the road to face a division rival, hopefully wiping them out of the division title race. The Rays would trot out their ace, David Price, in an attempt to keep the division race under 10 games. Chris Archer, once traded away by the Rays, would be very motivated to crush them.
Boston stuck it to Tampa Bay almost immediately, with a Dustin Pedroia double that scored Xander Bogaerts from 1st. Mike Napoli followed Pedroia with a 2R-HR that glanced off the LF foul pole for a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Jackie Bradley Jr. added to their lead in the 2nd with a solo-HR and Victorino made it 5-0 with an RBI single.
Through five and a half innings it looked like yet another Boston blow-out paired with an Archer gem, but the Rays managed to make it interesting in the bottom of 6th. Despite shutting out Tampa Bay, Archer's slider was not cooperating and he was issuing free passes at an alarming rate. It finally caught up to him, putting two men on, and the umps didn't help. With one out Mike Napoli caught a hard line drive to 1st, catching Wil Myers off guard, and rushed toward 1st for the inning ending double play. Myers, trying to get back to the bag, ran into Napoli and knocked him down but the ump failed to call it an out that would end the inning. After a length discussion between Farrell and the umps, the game went on and James Loney hit a 3R-HR. Farrell rushed out and continued his discussion with the umps, and kept discussing until he was thrown out of the game.

Napoli fueled the hot Red Sox offense once again.
Archer, clearly rattled, came back out for the 7th and things were still not going his way. Archer loaded the bases on walks, rarely getting strikes called properly, and then walked Wil Myers on a clear strike three that scored Jayson Werth. Archer would close out the inning and end his day, but 8BB and 4R with only 2H allowed would mar his potential win.
With a 5-4 lead Boston pulled father ahead with a Shane Victorino RBI double that scored Bogaerts from 2nd, and then Will Middlebrooks drove in Victorino to make it 7-4. Grant Balfour came in for the 9th, and he couldn't even get two outs. Mookie Betts hit an RBI double to score Blake Swihart from second, and then Balfour loaded the bases for Napoli. Napoli returned the favor with a Grand Slam that ended Balfour's evening, and capped off a 12-4 beating and a 10 game lead in the AL East.
