2015 Minor League Report (July)

THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

Player (Prospect Grade - John Sickels, Current Level)

3B, Garin Cecchini (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Not much news here, hitting has ticked up a bit to .256. 14HR and 26SB, made the MiLB All-Star team.

SS, Chris Owings (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Similar to Cecchini, continues steady climb toward the majors. Hitting .275 with 8HR and 11SB, made the MiLB All-Star team.

RHP, Leonys Bravo (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Looks like the Red Sox may have to pump the brakes on Bravo as he finally struggles. 1-2 mark with a 6.28ERA is quite a jump, though the organization still believes in him these are the first signs of mortality. With a 22K:6BB ratio in 14.1IP nobody is writing him off, but he will need to work on his secondary pitches instead of breezing by on his fastball-change up combo.

RHP, Braden Shipley (Grade : B+, MLB)

LHP, Henry Owens (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Owens has been hot in the past month with a 5-0 record in July to bring his season up to 9-6. Dropped his ERA and WHIP down to 2.79 and 1.19, starting to look more and more like he starts 2016 in the majors.

LHP, Trey Ball (Grade : B, AAA Pawtucket)

Still getting beat up, but the stuff is still great and probably won't be demoted. Still needs to work on his command, but Boston is very committed to his future.

RHP, Braxton Davis (Grade : B-, AAA Pawtucket)

Going toe-to-toe with Owens with very similar numbers. 8-5, 2.75ERA, 119WHIP, 121K:52BB.

1B, Issac Koufax (Grade : B-, AAA Pawtucket)

AAA has been a little harder for the fast rising 1B, hitting only .268 with a single HR in July. Small sample size, but starting to look mortal at the plate.

RHP, Allen Webster (Grade : C+, AAA Pawtucket)

Still dragging his feet, rumors are that Boston have been discussing trade options for the off-season.

3B/OF, Rico Berroa (Grade : C+, AAA Pawtucket)

Hitting .364 with 4SB since coming up, nobody is jumping to conclusions yet on his hitting, but defense still remains his strength.

SS, Pedro Santana (Grade : C+, AA Portland)

Hitting .299 with 3HR and 13SB, won't be in AA past this season with Owings / Cecchini expected to be promoted. Ceiling is most likely a .270 hitter with 30SB and Gold Glove caliber defense.

Players Making Noise

RHP, Roddy Gibson (Grade : C+, AA Portland)

A stop in Portland might have been aiming too low, if AAA rotation wasn't full the Red Sox probably should have moved him there. 3-1 record in July with a 1.86ERA and a Bravo-esque 26K:6BB ratio in 29IP.
