THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BOSTON, MA - With the mid-season break behind them the Red Sox opened at home with yet another NL Central foe. The Chicago Cubs limped into Boston for a four-game series, and with a 45-50 record the Red Sox and Chris Archer would be penciling in a win. Former Oakland A's pitcher Jarrod Parker, coming off a Tommy John's surgery in 2014, would start for the Cubs.

Boston opened the scoring in the first with a Jackie Bradley Jr. lead-off HR, and things looked to be on their way. Archer, his usual self, showed improved command and struck out five Cubs over the next two scoreless innings.

Parker settled down after the HR in the first and held Boston in check until the 3rd when Wellington Castillo finally got to Archer with an RBI single to tie the game. Starlin Castro followed that up with an RBI single of his own to score Castro who had advanced to second. Archer settled back into his groove, using his slider more regularly, and held off the Cubs until the 6th inning. With a man on 1st Archer hung a slider right over the plate and Justin Ruggiano stroked it to RF for an RBI double and a 3-1 lead.

Parker dominated the struggling Boston offense.

Boston just didn't have any answers today and completely wasted another Archer performance that ended in 14K. Rule 5 pick Braden Shipley came in for the 8th and 9th inning and shut out the Cubs. The Red Sox could not string any hits together and made Parker look like Clayton Kershaw. Jose Veras came in for the 9th and easily ended Boston's miserable day.
