THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Red Sox hit the road for a long trip through the AL Central, and their first stop was a date with James Shields. Chris Archer has been as hot as any pitcher could be after his last two starts, but with Boston's hitting almost non-existent he might need to be even better.

Archer and Shields went at it right away, with Shields using his off speed arsenal to keep Boston's hitters grounding out and popping up. Archer, as usual, picked at the corners and racked up strikeout after strikeout along with a walk or two mixed in. Finally in the 6th inning someone broke the deadlock, Eric Hosmer waited patiently until Archer missed on a fastball high and tight that ended up right over the plate and finished in the outfield grass.

Shields was very sharp today.

Shields left after 6.2IP having shut out the Red Sox, and Archer left after collecting 14K in 7IP and allowing only the single run. The pens duked it out, with Boston continuing to struggle, and then Greg Holland came in to finish things off. In the end Boston outhit the Royals, but they just couldn't string anything together.
