THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

Player (Prospect Grade - John Sickels, Current Level)

3B, Garin Cecchini (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Doesn't have much to prove in AAA, but hitting .242 so far isn't going to get him a call-up any time soon. Continues to play defense well, the rest of his numbers are as expected including 20SB already. Just waiting out the 3B situation in Boston for now.

SS, Chris Owings (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Owings looks like he's trying to hit his way into the majors with a .275 mark and 5HR already after 6 all last year. 9SB is also tempting, but much like Cecchini he is stuck behind some bigger names for the time being. Should see playing time during roster expansion, will have to wait until 2016 for anything serious.

RHP, Leonys Bravo (Grade : B+, AA Portland)

As expected he is crushing AA hitters. Has worked hard to improve his secondary offerings, 10-2 mark with 2.04ERA and a 164K:40BB ratio in 127.2IP shows he is improving rapidly. Will probably continue to overpower AA players, likely slated for a promotion to AAA Pawtucket. Management continues to be very aggressive with him.

RHP, Braden Shipley (Grade : B+, MLB)

LHP, Henry Owens (Grade : B+, AAA Pawtucket)

Pitching well during his first full season in AAA. 4-6 record doesn't look great, but 3.07ERA and 1.26WHIP is much more encouraging.

LHP, Trey Ball (Grade : B, AAA Pawtucket)

Looks like a young pitcher in his first full season in AAA. K:BB ration is decent, 4.10ERA isn't bad, but 1.48WHIP will need some improvement. Should be in Pawtucket for at least another season.

RHP, Braxton Davis (Grade : B-, AAA Pawtucket)

Davis has been excellent, his only blemish being a 1.21WHIP, which isn't bad. Looks to be on par with the other elite minor leaguers along side him, could push Owens for an MLB rotation spot in 2016.

1B, Issac Koufax (Grade : B-, AA Portland)

Really impressing coaches, including other organizations. 15HR already is a surprise considering he wasn't projected for much power, hitting .278 and continuing to show Gold Glove caliber defense at 1B. Definitely Boston's best 1B prospect, might be pushed to AAA just to see if his hitting holds up.

RHP, Allen Webster (Grade : C+, AAA Pawtucket)

Talk of his demise may have pushed him to improve, no longer looks elite but his ERA and K:BB look better. Regression may have him sent down to AA with a prospective replacement waiting to get promoted (see players making noise).

3B/OF, Rico Berroa (Grade : C+, AA Portland)

Surprising coaches with his hitting, .283 so far, but the rest has been as expected. 16SB with little power and Gold Glove caliber defense in the outfield. Could join fellow Sea Dog, Isaac Koufax, in Pawtucket just to see how he does with more advanced pitching.

SS, Pedro Santana (Grade : C+, AA Portland)

Basically a copy of Berroa, hitting .284 with little power. Too good with the glove to stay in AA much longer, but coaches still have serious doubts about his bat at the next level. Plate discipline is become a concern, may switch to OF if promoted to AAA this year.

Players Making Noise

RHP, Roddy Gibson (Grade : C+, AA Portland)

2014 Comp A selection has looked very good at A-Advanced Salem this year after finishing last season in Class A Greenville. Could earn a promotion to AA Portland with a number of prospects slated to be promoted to AAA Pawtucket after the All-Star Break.
