THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

OAKLAND, CA - The Red Sox hit the road today with a target on their backs. Boston comes into Oakland, and AL West contender currently struggling, sitting atop the AL East by 2.5 games and leading the majors in HR and RA. They are #2 in RBI and team ERA, so things are going much better than expected. Jon Lester would start today and face off against uber-stud wunderkind Sonny Gray.

Gray's day did not start well

If it wasn't for the 1st inning the legend of Sonny Gray would have continued to grow, but he stumbled out of the gate. It only took four pitches for Xander Bogaerts to hammer a HR to deep CF. Two batters later Mike Napoli planted a HR in the concrete steps beyond the LF wall, and suddenly Boston was up 2-0.

Unfortunately for Oakland, and to a much lesser degree Boston, that was it. Lester and Gray completely dominated the game, with Lester allowing a single hit, one BB with 11K over 8.0IP. Sam Fuld was the only A's player to get a hit, both of them, and Oakland was completely shut out. Uehara came in and just continued what Lester started to give Boston their 47th win of the season.
