THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BOSTON, MA - Boston completed their third trade of the season to bring 2B/SS Chris Owings to AAA Pawtucket. The Red Sox sent C Christian Vasques (AAA Pawtucket) to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for the highly rated prospect.

Owings has not had a great season, but many scouts had him pegged as the Arizona starting SS in the near future. Didi Gregorious was seen as the better defender, but he was not getting it done at the plate. Owings is a much better hitter with some speed, he won't hit 20HR a year but 15 is very possible. He doesn't walk very often and needs to tweak his aggressive approach, but he could hit .275-.285 in the majors. Owings was named the Pacific Coast League MVP in 2013 after having an excellent season for AAA Reno (104R, 12HR, 81RBI, 20SB, .330BA). It's tough to say where he fits in with Pedrioa and Bogaerts blocking his positions, but at 22 there is plenty of time for him to make his way to the Majors.
