THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BOSTON, MA - A rainy day at Fenway would be the site for today's matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays. Lester had already faced off against one of the Jays' best pitchers (Hutchison), and today he would face rookie stud Marcus Stroman. Stroman hasn't been particularly amazing so far, but he is sticking in the rotation and getting better with the mental side of the game.

This game basically boiled down to a pitcher's duel where both offenses liked to swing at air. Mike Napoli was the only player immune to Stroman's 2-seam fastball, going 4/4 on the day. With a 1-0 lead going into the 5th inning, Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli hit solo-HR to bookend an Ortiz ground-out and expand the lead to 3-0. The rest of the game was very dull offensively, with Lester going 7.0 innings and striking out 9 with only a single hit and BB allowed. The Tazawa-Uehara connection closed out the 8th and 9th to wrap this one up.

Lester is currently enjoying a run of starts that move him into the AL Cy Young conversation. With a 6-2 record, 2.44ERA, and a 0.97WHIP he could find himself passing Texas' Yu Darvish in the voting.
