THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BOSTON, MA - The Red Sox can't seem to catch a break lately, going from a double dose of the Yankees to Toronto on the road, and now a visit from the Oakland A's. Is that wasn't bad enough, Oakland's wunderkind Sonny Gray would take the mound.

The game started off with some excitement as Gray showed his youth, allowing a run in the 1st (Pedrioa drives in Bogaerts from 2nd) and narrowly escaped a bases loaded jam without allowing any more. Gray looked good, inducing many ground outs, but allowed a second run in the 3rd. Meanwhile Jon Lester was shutting out the A's, struggling a little with command as he issued four walks on the day.

Not much happened until the bottom of the 7th, both teams played good defense and their pitching looked good. Gray left the game for Sean Doolittle in the 7th, and Boston jumped on Doolittle to put the game away. Dustin Pedroia (4/4 on the day) hit a solo-HR to add to his 1st inning RBI total, and Will Middlebrooks really polished him off with a 2R-HR (bringing his RBI total to 3) in the 8th. In the end Lester and Andrew Miller combined for a 3H shutout to give Lester his 4th win and Miller's 1st save.
