THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BOSTON, MA - The Red Sox announced a stunning trade today with the aquisition of SP Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay Rays. C Ryan Lavarnway (AAA Pawtucket) was sent in exchange for Archer, a real no-brainer move for the Red Sox that bolsters their rotation.

Archer has struggled this season (3-2, 5.70ERA with 23K), but even if he continues to struggle and gets sent down to AAA this feels like a win-win scenario as C Blake Swihart (AA Portland) is looking more and more like he will pass Lavarnway in the pecking order.

The aquisition of Archer pushes Felix Doubront, who has been servicable this year, into the bullpen. Boston also annouced that SS/3B Brock Holt has been optioned to AAA Pawtucket to make room for Archer. Doubront has pitched out of the pen in the past, this move gives Boston good options in long relief with Chris Capuano currently shouldering the vast majority of that role.
