THE BOSTON GLOBE (RED SOX DYNASTY REPORT)

BALTIMORE, MD - The Boston Red Sox opened their title defense today at Camden Yards with Jon Lester on the mound and high hopes of starting out on the right foot. Lester would match up against Miguel Gonzalez in the game and try to continue the momentum from 2014.

It only took three batters to ruin Baltimore's home opener, and Gonzalez's day, as David Ortiz opened the scoring with a solo shot in the 1st inning. Mike Napoli tried to follow Ortiz, but a deep blast to center was robbed by Adam Jones, reaching over the wall to take away a would-be HR. Daniel Nava continued the scoring with a solo shot of his own, the first of two, to give Boston a 2-0 lead in the 2nd.

Gonzalez's day only got worse as Will Middlebrooks blasted a two-run HR in the 4th to make it 4-0, and he was pulled to start the 5th after giving up 8 hits over 4.0IP. Meanwhile, Jon Lester was pitching extremely well and looked like he could finish the game himself. Once Nava added his second HR in the top of the 8th and Boston managed to drive in another to make it 6-0 it was clear that Lester had a win all but locked up.

Junichi Tazawa came in to relieve Lester in the 8th and closed out the game with two scoreless innings to wrap up the game 6-0. Lester finished the game with 7.0IP, only 2 hits, 9K, and his first win of the season. Boston managed 4HR's to crush Baltimore, a rough start to Miguel Gonzalez's season.
