Remember ESPN Baseball 2k4

2k4 was the last 2k baseball game I ever played for an extended period of time. I had a blast online with 2k4. Then MVP 05 came along and blew 2k out of the water and 2k has not impressed me since.

I had a couple of good reasons for liking 2k4 so much.

First was the simplicity of the gameplay itself. The game at it's core was real baseball, and there were not too many meters or animations getting in the way.

Custom uniforms. Those were some of the coolest things ever, you had like 3-4 different uniforms for each team (useable online). They had some sweet old school baggy pants with stirups, they offered it all.

Classic stadiums! This game let you play in old school stadiums, like the Polo Ground, and there was not just one, but a good amount. If was fun playing in stadiums with monsterous center fields and others with short short home run distances down the lines. This was all available online!

Custom teams online. I remember doing my own fantasy draft vs a friend of mine over the phone. We would each pick in turn, but would not be allowed to pick someone the other person had picked up. After the draft we would take our team online and face eachother. This fantasy draft feature should be in every online game, and be accessible to use.

Playing defense was really fun, you had a lot of control over your players, almost too much. Some of the pitchers fielding animations were classicly funny. Especially when they would field a ball down the third base side and make an off-balance throw that would end up on the money every time.

That's all I have on 2k4. Let me know what you thought of the game!
