Syracuse heads back home unranked again after a blowout loss to Louisville. The team fell apart and lost captain Tommy DeVito early on last week, leading to the lopsided defeat. Essentially ruled out of the division race at this point Syracuse can only play spoiler for other teams fighting to win it. Last year, Syracuse traveled to Blacksburg and were upset on a game-winning touchdown pass by Josh Jackson with only 38 seconds remaining to give the Hokies a 33-32 victory. This year, Virginia Tech have the same record as Syracuse and are riding a two game losing streak into this matchup. SR QB Josh Jackson has accounted for nearly 2300 total yards and 23 touchdowns through eight games and it is imperative that the Orange find out some way to slow him down if they want to win. Syracuse will look to start fast and not allow this game to get away from them like they did last week. Playing in front of a home crowd should help give them the advantage and lead them to a close win at home.
Prediction: 37-28 Syracuse

Heartbreak at home. Syracuse misses a potential game-tying field goal with 2 seconds remaining to give Virginia Tech a 38-35 win today in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse once again allowed a special teams touchdown and missed a crucial field goal, continuing their trend of special teams woes. Tommy DeVito played out of his mind today, easily having the best day of his career despite the loss. He threw for over 500 yards and 4 touchdowns and led a valiant comeback attempt despite being down two scores with under 3 minutes remaining. FR WR Beau Dennis finally had his coming out party with 6 catches for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns. SO WR Allen Rawlins chipped in 10-122-1 as well. For the second straight week the running game as a whole could not contribute anything to the offense even when facing a bottom tier run defense. JR HB Markenzy Pierre was briefly benched in the second half to try to get the running game going but nothing would work. Syracuse should look to get Pierre involved in the passing, play-action, and read option games to open some more running lanes for him when he takes handoffs. The defense was a liability once again but has performed better than expected for the majority of the season. Hokie QB Josh Jackson and HB Terius Wheatley gashed the defense with Jackson accounting for 350 yards of total offense and Wheatley scoring 3 times. The Orange fall to 5-4 and need to get back in the win column or risk their season falling apart completely after back-to-back losses.
Final Score: 38-35 Virginia Tech
