Syracuse are ranked for the first time since 2001 and are hitting the road to take on the Louisville Cardinals. The Orange beat Louisville last year by a final score of 29-27 in Syracuse. Tommy DeVito carved up the Louisville defense to the tune of 406 yards. SR HB Tyrone Perkins ran for over 100 yards and over 5.0 ypc while SR WR Sean Riley and SR WR Devin Butler had over 100 yards receiving each. Clearly most of the stars of last years game have since graduated aside from SO (now JR) QB Tommy DeVito. Syracuse is fresh off a statement-making upset of undefeated #5 West Virginia in Morgantown and will look to keep riding that momentum right on through Louisville, who have dropped their last three games after a 4-0 start. The Cardinals boast a top 30 offense and a top 30 pass defense but their bottom 10 rushing defense could have trouble slowing down Tommy DeVito on the read option which could open up passing lanes. The wildcard for Louisville is SR QB Jawon Pass returning from an injury that had sidelined him for the previous two losses.
Prediction: 42-27 Syracuse

Imagine any scenario that can go wrong in a game and it happened for Syracuse today. Allow a defensive and special teams touchdown? Check. Starting quarterback knocked out with concussion in first half? Check.
Running game cannot get going at all until garbage time? Check. Missed field goal by a senior kicker in clutch situation? Check. Have a tipped ball bounce off a defenders foot and be intercepted? Check. This game was bad for the Orange. Louisville jumped on them early, building a commanding 21-0 lead after the first quarter. Syracuse rebounded nicely however, with a convincing touchdown drive, a pick six, and a field goal with 9 seconds remaining in the half to trim the score to 21-17. The ensuing kickoff was taken back for a house call by Louisville HB Colin Wilson and that was a sign that this game was not Syracuse's to win. Tommy DeVito was performing pretty well before the injury knocked him out and completely changed the momentum of the game. SR QB Rex Culpepper was as good as you can ask a backup quarterback to be thrown into that situation, but he wasn't as effective as DeVito would have been. Louisville HB Colin Wilson had over 350 all-purpose yards and 5 total touchdowns in what was a monster performance. It was the best individual performance against Syracuse during the season and a half that Coach Bays has been at the helm. Syracuse will likely drop from the rankings next week following this blowout loss to an unranked opponent. Look for Syracuse to come out with more fire next week, especially from a frustrated Tommy DeVito.
Final Score: 42-24 Louisville
