2016 Week 3: vs North Texas
Posted on November 24, 2018 at 08:24 PM.
North Texas (1-1) @ Syracuse (1-1)

The North Texas Mean Green come to town this week and Kirk Herbstreit is predicting an upset. The Mean Green lost to #13 Washington by 31 last week but that does not mean that they are a pushover. However, being ranked in the bottom half of the nation on both offense and defense does make them a bit of a pushover. The Orange are going to play in front of their home crowd for the first time this season and that alone should be enough to get them a comfortable win in this one.

Prediction: 42-24 Syracuse

This game started to look like a shootout before the Syracuse defense recognized the talent gap and tightened up. The defense was all over the Mean Green quarterbacks all day with SO DT Jason Houston tying the school's single-game sack record with 4 and SR DE Kingsley Jonathan breaking it with 5. The Mean Green opened the game by jumping out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter that was fueled by two Syracuse turnovers. After that the Orange cleaned it up and found their groove. FR SS Lance Williams recorded his first career interception, and then recorded another. SR HB Markenzy Pierre had a hat trick of touchdowns to go along with over 100 yards on the ground and 50 through the air. SO HB John Green had a good game in relief, scoring two late touchdowns on the ground. Backup QB Rex Culpepper also impressed with a perfect day throwing the football in relief. Speaking of quarterbacks, JR QB Tommy DeVito had a great game as usual, accounting for 5 total touchdowns. Syracuse moves to 2-1 on the season heading into Week 4.

Final Score: 63-20 Syracuse
