Syracuse Orange (6-2, 2-1 Away) | Virginia Tech Hokies (5-4, 2-3 Home) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
This game features two hopefuls in the ACC North. The Hokies are capable of playing an entire game and beating Syracuse but they are equally likely to not show up and be blown out. Consistency has eluded Virginia Tech this year but a win here will put them right behind Louisville in the division race and get them their 6th win of the season. I pick the Hokies to get it done at home in a close game and end the Syracuse winning streak.

What a game. The Hokies scored the game winning touchdown with 38 seconds to go and beat Syracuse by a final score of 33-32. Josh Jackson was nearly unstoppable, throwing for over 200 yards and a score and rushing for 3 more touchdowns in the victory. For Syracuse, Tommy DeVito was stellar and threw 2 touchdowns and nearly 300 yards in the win. Sean Riley went down with a concussion early and was lost for the game. For the second straight week Aaron Noel had a big game, and Allen Rawlins returned from injury to haul in 6 catches and a score. The defense played pretty well overall despite the score, forcing 3 turnovers and racking up 6 sacks. This game started out close with Syracuse and Virginia Tech tied at 10 with about 2 minutes before halftime. Syracuse scored a field goal to give themselves a 3-point lead but then Jackson was strip sacked and it led to a quick Orange touchdown and a 10-point lead. There was still a minute left in the half but Jackson threw an interception which allowed Syracuse to kick another field goal and enter the half leading 23-10. The third quarter was all Virginia Tech and they took a 27-23 lead heading into the fourth. Syracuse drove down the field but could only muster a field goal and Virginia Tech was still up 27-26. Jackson was strip sacked once again and this time Syracuse capitalized, turning it into a late touchdown. Virginia Tech punted and gave Syracuse the ball with a chance to ice the game or run out the clock. They ran five plays but eventually had to punt it back to the Hokies with 1:28 left on the clock. Virginia Tech drove down the field and scored the deciding touchdown, not leaving enough time for Syracuse to answer. This game drops Syracuse to 3-3 in ACC play and essentially ensures that they will not play for an ACC title in December.
