North Carolina State Wolfpack (1-5, 1-3 Away) | Syracuse Orange (4-2, 2-1 Home) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
NC State heads to New York this week to take on the Orange. The Wolfpack have one of the worst offenses in all of football in terms of total yards and scoring, averaging only 12.3 points per game, dead last in the FBS. NC State has lost to three Group of 5 teams this year and their only win was last weeks 12-6 road win over Clemson. Syracuse should look to move to 5-2 on the year and insert themselves in talk for being the winner of their division.

The Orange offense could not be stopped today as they never punted and led the team to a 42-23 win over NC State at the Carrier Dome. Tommy DeVito threw for 250 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first half alone and would finish with over 300 yards passing for the second straight week. Tyrone Perkins ran effectively and multiple receivers had long touchdown catches which helped pull away. In the second quarter, trailing the Wolfpack 14-7, Tommy DeVito found Devin Butler on 3rd-and-24 for a 62 yard touchdown that kept Syracuse from needing to punt it back to a hot Wolfpack offense. That seemed to be the turning point in the game as it began a 21-0 2nd quarter run for the Orange that put the game out of reach. Brandon Berry picked up 2 sacks on the afternoon and the run defense held NC State under 2 yards per carry. Syracuse will enter next week looking to get their 6th win of the season and become bowl eligible.
