Georgia State Panthers (3-1, 2-1 Away) | LSU Tigers (3-3, 1-3 Home) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This game could be interesting, as Herbstreit actually projects that the Panthers will steal this one. Common sense would count out the Sun Belt team on the road against SEC competition but this SEC team is not playing like themselves. LSU have already lost a game to Sun Belt foe UL Monroe this season. LSU has also notched 2 SEC wins and should have more talent out there so I expect them to win a defensive struggle with some big plays in the second half.

Wow. What a game. Georgia State fumbled on their opening drive but forced a field goal by LSU going the other way. After a quick 3-and-out by the Panthers offense, their defense surrendered a touchdown to the Tigers offense. Georgia State drove the ball inside the LSU 40, but Taz Bateman fumbled a carry and LSU struck on a long Derrius Guice run to put themselves up 3 scores in the first quarter. An Aaron Winchester interception followed by an LSU field goal and this game looked like it was going to be a laugher. End of one quarter LSU 20 - 0 Georgia State. The second quarter was slightly more evenly matched as both teams scored points and LSU went into halftime with a 24 point cushion. Georgia State scored 27 unanswered and were a missed extra point away from winning this game in regulation. Derrius Guice was huge for the Tigers running for nearly 200 yards on only 17 carries, while adding 5 receptions for 38 more yards. The Panthers defense gave up big plays early but tightened up in the second half, forcing four consecutive punts to end regulation. Winchester had a magnificent day scoring 4 total touchdowns, while Taz Bateman proved himself against the SEC defense by running for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ari Werts set a new school record for catches in a single game by hauling in 10 passes for 104 yards on the afternoon. Georgia State will leave Baton Rouge uplifted by their resiliency in this game as they prepare for the heart of conference play.
