#24 Syracuse (8-4) @ South Alabama (7-5)
This bowl game match-up looks lopsided on paper and could worse on the field. South Alabama limped through the weakest conference in football, losing three games to fellow Sun Belt teams. The Jaguars have next to no passing game and rely very heavily on HB Adarius Lemons to move the ball. They played two SEC teams this year, losing both games including a 12 point loss to 1-11 Mississippi State. The Jaguars have a tough defense, 20th in the nation in total yards allowed and 12th against the pass. If they can slow down the Syracuse offense and control the ball with their ground game they could have a chance in this one. That being said the Orange should roll through easily.
Prediction: 43-19 Syracuse
Syracuse was met with a decent challenge through the first half of the game but ended up pulling away for a blowout victory. South Alabama HB Adarius Lemons was as good as advertised running for 132 on 11.0 yards per carry. Despite the individual success, the team struggled to stop Syracuse from racking up yards and big plays while their own pass offense was inefficient and could not move the ball downfield. JR QB Tommy DeVito threw for nearly 400 yards and 2 scores while running for 80 yards and 1 more. SO HB John Green had 50 yards and 2 scores while SR HB Markenzy Pierre added 50 total yards and 2 receiving scores. SO WR Allen Rawlins had 6-125 and SR WR Aaron Noel recorded 6-64 on his way to setting the school's new single season reception mark. DeVito broke his own passing yardage record in the third quarter of this game. SR DE Kingsley Jonathan proved he deserved the awards he won by racking up 3 sacks, a safety, and breaking Terrell Suggs' NCAA sack record. Syracuse move to 9-4 on the season and will almost surely be ranked in the final polls for the season.
Final Score: 53-14 Syracuse
