This week I came across a wonderful post by mrjordan. This thread, which you can find at http://www.operationsports.com/forums/scea-sports-mlb-rosters/336518-ratings-scale-making-your-own-rosters.html It has to do with a system that deals with real life stats in the game, and messing with them to uncover a world of attributes and ratings in the game, and how they relate to stats given by each player.
Because of this post, I feel enlightened to do a project of my very own. Over the course over my next 3 seasons on MLB 09, I will create 8 different players. These 8 different players with have the same ratings for each category (Contact, Power, Speed, Fielding, Stolen Bases, Plate Discipline (walks), and Plate Vision (Strikeouts).) Again, all credit goes out to mrjordan for this wonderful idea.
So as I said, each player will have the same rating for each category respectively. Ex. Player Ninety-Nine with have a 99 for each of the categories listed above. Player Eighty-Five has a 85 for each. Same with 75, 60, 45, 30, 15, 0. This is a test to see how much a players rating affects how he performs on the field.
This, is all going to be based on a 3 year, weighted average. So, 25% for 2009, 33% for 2010, and 42% for 2011. Then I will compile all of these stats using Microsoft Excel. And then I hope to create a huge table for every stat that a player can get, and then relate it to ratings for each player. Basically, I am just doing a larger scale mrjordan type thing.
So bear with me. I think it is worth it.
Later today, I hope to update you on my project and possibly talk about what aspects of a players game goes into a rating for the player in the game.
Thanks a lot!
