(DY #1) Quck yearly round up, WMU leads on offense
Posted on October 8, 2011 at 10:06 AM.
Some Interesting Notes: The Western Michigan Broncos have 4 of the best offensive players on one team in a while. WMU this year boasts the best TE in football, the top 3 best QB and RB, and also one of the fastest rising players in WR Eric Montgomery.

Balancing It Out: QB Lee Holiday and RB Dave Myers are both in the top 2 when it comes to attempts. That is something that doesn’t happen much. That shows that Western spend a lot of time on offense. No team in FCS Division 1 football history has had players that were both in the top 2 when it comes to passing attempts and rushing attempts. This also shows that the Broncos are fine with the short gains. Normally having such a high attempt percentage wouldn’t result in many wins, but WMU leads the nation in points per game.

Lee Holiday leads the nation in TD passes by 6, completions and the most important…..Completion percentage. No wonder Western lets him pass at will. Unlucky for the rest of football they boast an amazing running back too. Dave Myers leads the nation in rushing yards and is top 5 in many others.

The Other End of Lee Holiday: Speaking of passing a lot, Lee Holiday’s favorite target the past two years has been TE Kevin Brown. He is the highest ranking TE in every single receiving category. He also leads the nation in TD catches currently. That is pretty good for any player by any standards. Brown also is looking to be the Unanimous favorite to win the best TE award. Lucky for the Broncos, they picked up a very surprising top 8 TE last year during offseason recruiting. This should help fill the void when Kevin Brown leaves after this year.

On the Edge: WR Eric Montgomery is the other key part to Lee Holiday. He actually didn’t do anything until the last 3rd of the season. Since then he has led the nation in categories during the stretch. He was a Freshman All-American the year prior, but had a slow start to this season. Now he’s starting to catch fire and could turn into one of the best wide outs in the entire nation. The scary part, he’s only a sophomore. Word on the street is that the Broncos also picked up a top 25 WR in the nation during recruiting season who could be even better. Woah, the Broncos could be a force for a while at wide out.

Career Notes: Lee Holiday leads the entire nation the past 2 years in passing yards (by a huge margin) and touchdown passes. Dave Myers leads the nation in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
