Penn State's amazing offense
Posted on September 2, 2011 at 11:47 PM.
94-14 It wasn't running up the score. Atleast not on purpose. FCS Midwest's defense might have had one of the worst defensive performances in college footbal history. They gave up an astonishing 969 yards of offense. You say why did Penn State keep pouring on? Well they didn't, but the score doesn't do any justice. Penn State put in their 2nd and 3rd strings at the begining of the second half. The only thing was that they couldn't even be stopped either.

On the ground Penn State averaged a team record 10 yads per carry. As a team! The first, second and third string runnin backs had 100 yard performances and longs over 40 yards for each. Passing was even crazier. The Lions averaged 22 yards per throw and threw for 354 yards on only 16 attempts.

After the first half (56-7) Penn State came out running in formations that they even rarely ran out of. Yet they kept on having amazing success. FCS Midwest truely looked like not a high school team, but a junior varisty team out there on defense. It was even sad to watch from a Penn State fans eyes.

Now for FCS s offense it was a slightly different story. FCS managed 14 points and an awfuly lot of yards with over 500. They did however turn the ball over 6 times and were sacked 9 times. Their 2 scores were both long plays that easily could have been avoided.

When asked about the score of the game coach Simmons had this to say. "The score realistically should have only been in the high 50s or maybe 60s, but not 90. Also remember that 1 TD was a punt return. I really was just calling plays that we didn't practice much and tried to get my players some game time. I found out today that we have 2 really really good running backs that could start for anyone, and a really good backup that could start on most other teams too. Our quarterback situation is still slightly up in the air because both QBs showed that they belonged. I will also not stop one of my 2nd or 3rd stringers from experiencing success by telling him not to score a TD. I will not though embarrass a team by throwing when up and using 1st stringers."
