Andrew Scott, the highly sought after high school prospect coming out of Westlake High in California has officially joined the NFL after three disappointing seasons at the illustrious university of Notre Dame. He will join the Jacksonville Jaguars after they drafted him with a compensatory selection in the 7th round.

Andrew had a very successful career leading the Westlake Warriors to two winning seasons as their starting quarterback in his junior and senior year. Scouts were impressed by his ability to make plays happen and his understanding of the game. Scott then narrowed down his decision to attend college at the University of Georgia, where he could follow Matthew Stafford's footsteps, the University of Southern California or the University of Notre Dame. He committed to play in South Bend, opting to mimic the career of his idol, Joe Montana.

Scott's three seasons at Notre Dame were a constant challenge. He never had a chance to start a game for the Fighting Irish, playing a few snaps here and there. Both Charlie Weis and Brian Kelly have claimed their decision not to play the promising prospect was based on the high risk of committing turnovers that had plagued Scott throughout his high school career. Neither coach saw the progress they expected from the young men. Instead of transferring at the end of his freshman season, Andrew remained at Notre Dame, confident his opportunity would come. This was not the case, and Scott entered the 2012 NFL Draft during his junior season.

This move was heavily criticized, as many experts and scouts felt that no team would be willing to take a change on a player who had little to no playing time in college. Andrew performed well in the combine, showcasing an excellent passing game, mobility and leadership. His performance caught the attention of a few NFL teams, leaving some hope that Andrew would be given a shot at his dream of becoming a pro footballer. On draft day, all hope was nearly lost, until the Jaguars decided to give Scott an opportunity, selecting him with one of the last picks in the 7th round.

Jacksonville is facing a QB dilemma, as Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert's play in 2011 was disappointing to say the least. Scott comes in with an chance to make a name for himself in training camp and preseason. As Jacksonville prepares for its preseason opener against the defending champion New York Giants, Mike Mularkey has named Chad Henne the starter, while Andrew Scott has outlasted Gabbert for the backup role, starting off his NFL career on the right foot.
