BLOOMINGTON - Robb Reed came back home to earn his first big victory as coach at Indiana.

Ben Chappell threw for three touchdowns and ran for another on Saturday to help the Hoosiers to a 35-28 victory over Michigan.

"We're happy. Happy, happy, happy," Reed said when asked if he was relieved. "Everybody's happy in Hoosier-land. Our players wanted a win."

"I think the 100 or so people I got tickets for, they probably had a great time in the tailgating lot," Reed said. "But for me, it was about getting the football team a win. We really needed this win."

Chappell completed 19 of 33 passes for 312 yards, and Darius Willis ran for 60 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. The Hoosier defense held Michigan (4-1) to 33 net yards rushing overall.

It was 1987, the last time Indiana beat Michigan, 1990, the last time Indiana started 4-0, and 2001, the last time Indiana won its Big Ten opener.

"Just to get the offense rolling early was big for us," Chappell said. "We know how this team can play; we know the potential this team has and where we can go. ... Guys are happy, jumping around the locker room and it's a great team to share it with."

For Reed, it doesn't get any easier, as they travel to Columbus, OH to face the #1 ranked Buckeyes.
