Reed, introduced as the Hoosiers' new head coach last week, landed his first recruit Thursday when 6-foot-3 Jay Marshall signed a letter of intent.
Marshall, from Celina, O.H., is playing his senior year at Celina High School this fall.
Marshall had emerged as a coveted recruit in recent months and had offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue and Tennessee.
"Jay is a tremendous athlete," IU associate head coach Trent Green said. "His ability to throw down the field and hit the open receiver will help us open up the offense."
Marshall is invited to several postseason all-star games and is ranked as the 65th best quarterback in the class of 2010 by ESPN.com.
He is the first recruit for the Hoosiers.
