Jon Niese Striking Out Brian McCann
Mets starter Jon Niese threw a complete game shutout and even helped his own cause by hitting a RBI single to help his team to their first win 7-0 this afternoon. A five-run fifth inning helped to knock out opposing starter Jair Jurrgens out the game after only 4 1/3 innings.
The Mets stay home for their next series against the Washington Nationals where it will be the big righty Mike Pelfrey facing off against Nationals starter Edwin Jackson.

Daniel Murphy's Homer in the 2nd Inning
Chipper Jones had two hits including this go ahead double in the 6th.
It looked like R.A Dickey was pitching two different games out there. "It's the nature of the knuckleball, you don't know what to expect from pitch to pitch", said Mets manager Terry Collins after the game.
Dickey had thrown 3 perfect innings for the Mets before it got away from him in innings 4-6 giving up 6 runs.
The Mets offense looked a lot better today against Tommy Hanson outhitting the Braves 11-9 but they still could not come up with the win. Daniel Murphy went 3 for 5 including a solo homer in the 3rd to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.
Yet Dickey struggled. The big blow came off the bat of the notorious Met killer, Chipper Jones hit a 2-run 2 out double in the 6th that gave a Braves the advantage at 5-3 and the lead for good.
Craig Kimbrel came in and pitched a perfect 9th for his first game of the season.
The Mets hope to salvage a win in this series tomorrow when they throw Jon Niese against the Braves in the finale.

Mets offense struggled to get anything going offensively as the Mets season opener went by pretty uneventfully as they lost 6-1.
Mets only blow offensively came from the bat of Lucas Duda who hit his first of the season off of Tim Hudson in the 2nd. Johan Santana threw 5 shutout innings before running into trouble in the 6th giving up 2 runs from a Brian McCann RBI double and a Matt Diaz RBI single.
The Braves then tacked on 2 runs in both the 8th and the 9th inning including a 2-run blast from Dan Uggla (1) off of Bobby Parnell.
The series will continue on Saturday after a day off on Friday. The scheduled starters will be R.A Dickey for the Mets against Tommy Hanson for the Braves

Attachment 535Hope springs eternal at this time of the season. Everyone begins in first and fan bases throughout America (and Toronto) believe it's their year. This isn't anything different in Flushing as the New York Mets look to surprise some people in the loaded NL East. With a finally healthy Johan Santana and stars David Wright and Ike Davis ready bounce back from injury riddled seasons this Mets club is ready to prove all the projections wrong. It all begins with opening day in Flushing where the aforementioned Santana will face Tim Hudson and the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.
