Game Notes
Coming off a nice win over Idaho, we have to carry what we did well into this game against a top 25 school. It won't be easy considering the fact that they have one of the best defenses in the NCAA, but if we switch up our attack and play to our strength of running, we should be able to put points on the board and let the defense play its game.

Knights Use Second Half To Steamroll Vandals

Orlando, FL - New offensive coordinator Dakota Jones cracked a smile after the game was over, and with good reason. His adjustments were finally starting to pay off as the Knights scored 31 second half points in a 41-14 rout of Idaho.

The Knights struck first, with Caleb Cleveland dancing around multiple defenders to reach the endzone and a 7-0 lead. Idaho struck back, however, when quarterback Jon Hester tossed a hail mary downfield to Greg Underwood to tie the game.

The Knights were able to earn a field goal after they were stoned by Idaho's run defense, but Idaho came back with something worse, as they marched downfield and Randall Woods dove into a crowd of UCF defenders for the score, putting the Knights in a 14-10 deficit.

"I told the guys that they needed to get fired up," said new OC Dakota Jones. "I told Wright that even though he'd been struggling a bit, he needed to try to throw when he could. Both of us knew he had a good arm, but it took awhile for it to come out."

Wright helped the explosion begin when he tossed a long ball downfield on 3rd down all the way to Nils Woods. Although he was tackled, that gave an opportunity for Caleb Cleveland to find the endzone again. On the next drive, however, Wright really showed potential when he threw the ball over everyone, but Nils Woods somehow caught the long ball and ran it in for the score.

In the fourth, Jake Hodges completed a march down the field for a touchdown, and Caleb Cleveland completed his hat trick with a long run when he broke away from Idaho defenders.

"This kid is talented," said Jones of Cleveland. "I have nothing but positive things to say about this kid and I'm very impressed with how he's played so far."

Kyle Hargrove tacked on a late field goal, completing the rout of the Vandals.

"We can't sit back for too long," said Jones. "We need to prepare for Arizona State."

Game Notes
Idaho is one of those teams that doesn't have as many resources talent-wise, so they're going to try to outwork us defensively. Our job is to avoid getting out-worked and mix up the plays. Their run defense could cause us problems due to their size, but if we can take advantage of their mediocre pass defense, we should be able to win this one.

Knights Click In 24-10 Win At Bowling Green

It wasn't quite the grand entrance both UCF or new OC Dakota Jones was expecting, but in his eyes, that's OK.

"I'd rather sort out the kinks in our system early in the season than later when we're facing a team like Boise State," Jones said.

The kinks didn't quite come out right away. The Knights had no problem with running the ball, but passing was a completely different story.

"It's nice to know that we can fall back on the run when we face a team like Bowling Green that has a pretty stingy pass defense," commented Jones.

As for the game, however, it took all but 3:32 for the Knights to get on the board when QB David Wright threw a long pass that downfield. However, just as he was about to reach the endzone, he was brought down by a defender. However, on the next play, star RB Caleb Cleveland charged into the endzone, and Kyle Hargrove made the extra point to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.

On their next possesion, the Knights converted again, this time when Tyler Ross spun around multiple Bowling Green defenders and ran all the way to the endzone.

"It's funny," Ross said while laughing. "I'm usually a reciever, so when I made that play by rushing, it was awesome."

The second quarter was dominated by defense, but the Falcons got on the board with a long kick to cut the UCF lead to 10, and the UCF earned a halftime lead of 13-3.

The third quarter was also dominated by many missed chances as well as a long drive for the Falcons that lasted into the fourth quarter when Dan McKnight made a short pass to Paul Bowers, who ran nine yards for the score to cut the lead to 3.

On the ensuing drive, the Knights were able to fight their way into field goal range, where Kyle Hargrove kicked a field goal to increase the lead to 6.

The game wasn't over though until a touchdown that was largely the same as the first, where Dan Wright threw a long pass downfield that was caught. However, just as he was about to reach the endzone, he was brought down, and Caleb Cleveland ran it in for a score, and they converted on the 2-point conversion to increase the lead to 14.

So, the Knights will leave Doyt Perry Stadium with a win, albeit a stressful one.

"We'll use the next game to work out the kinks as well," stated Jones. "This was a nice way to start the season and we hope we can keep on rolling."

UCF's next game and home opener is against the Idaho Vandals.

Knights Move To Big East, Hire Jones

Orlando, Florida - The world of college football has been shaken up by conference realignment, including a move to the Big East for the Knights. The Knights will play in a newly formed East division as they move from Conference USA with foes such as Southern Methodist, Houston, and Marshall.

In other news, the Knights, who have offensively struggled over the past few years, have hired Offensive Coordinator Dakota Jones. This is Jones' first collegiate job, but he says he will make the most of his opportunity.

"I'm very excited to come here and coach offensively," said Jones. "I plan to make subtle tweaks to the style of the offense so we can punch the ball into the endzone more often."
