Madden 11 will be better than Madden 10, but by how much? Stuck
Posted on April 8, 2010 at 07:19 AM.
There are many who would argue that Madden 10 was not that much of a leap over Madden 09. To those people, I say: Shove it. Your animosity toward EA, Tiburon, or whoever else clearly has clouded your judgement. Madden 10 may not be everything we've ever wanted in a football game, but to say it wasn't a significant improvement is purposefully discounting facts.

But the question remains; will the leap from '09 to '10 be matched again this year. Unfortunately, I am forced to say probably not.

Disclaimer: No, I haven't played Madden 11. I may or may not know a fact or two more about M11 than the average OS user, but I haven't touched the game. I'm not THAT much of an insider

The fact is that locomotion may be one of the biggest changes in Madden history. We tend to think of it as simply momentum based motion, but as we're often told by the devs- you change one thing, you break 10 others. Last year's community day had better locomotion than the final product, but it broke so many other aspects of play it was scrapped before release.

An example... a free safety in deep middle coverage must close on the ball in the air. With momentum based locmotion in effect, but no AI to support it (ie. still using the same AI as before) he will over run the spot he needs to be at by quite a ways, leaving him beaten deep by a post route. Not pretty, very exploitable.

What this means is that in order to impliment locomotion, a significant overhaul of individual player logic had to be done. A bigger task, I expect, than implimenting the movement system alone.

I don't expect major upgrades on the level of Pro-Tak outside of locomotion. However, if done correctly, Locomotion could be that feature that takes Madden 11 to where we've been begging it to be.

Still, the leap will not be as great.

FYI: I said "No, I haven't played Madden 11. I may or may not know a fact or two more about M11 than the average OS user, but I haven't touched the game. I'm not THAT much of an insider"

At the time I wrote this blog, I was at community day, but I had not played the game yet. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to say I was at Community Day at that point, so I simply made the point that I knew little to nothing more than the average OS user.

Significant to advancing football gaming in general. No way.

Significant to Madden, possibly. It was a step in the right direction, but I'm not sure if a step in the right direction qualifies as significant.

Good point everytime they add something new something else that was ok gets messed up. It's a win loss situation. Hopefully the loss won't be to big for M11. But locomotion is needed especially in the run game and lateral movement/juking.
