Cinderella season comes to an end for the VIkings
The Vikings faced against the league MVP, and the greatest offense in the NFL this year. They allowed 300 yards rushing, they were down 14-0 in the first quarter, but they still almost won the game. The Vikings run defense was not ready for the rushing attack of LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick, and the Eagles realized this early. The Eagles drove down the field on their first two drives and capitalized on both, leading 14-0 early. But as time expired, Christian Ponder threw a beautiful rainbow down the field to Victor Cruz, cutting the lead in half.
Adrian Peterson tied the game in the 2nd quarter at 14 with a 2 yard dive. But Michael Vick led the Eagles down the field again to increase the lead to 21-14 with a Jeremy Maclin touchdown. But Christian Ponder drove the Vikings downfield with 40 seconds left for a Blair Walsh field goal.
The second half consisted of two Alex Henery field goals, and a long touchdown to Percy Harvin. Christian Ponder played as well as Michael Vick, and his lone interception was on a heave to the end zone as time expired.
The Vikings season came to an end against the league MVP and the league-leading offense. But there is hope for the future, a lot of hope. The VIkings were supposed to win 3-4 games this year, and instead they came seconds away from the NFC Championship Game. This offseason, the Vikings front office will no doubt look to add some more talent around Christian Ponder to make another playoff run.
