NASCAR Thunder 2004: An Underrated Masterpiece

Over the next couple of weeks, I will take a look at NASCAR Thunder 2004. This is my favorite 2nd favorite NASCAR game (NASCAR 06 Total Team Control is my favorite). This was actually my first game ever. This blog will be about that experience.

On December 25, 2003, "Santa" brought me and my family a PS2 and each of us got one game. My dad got Looney Tunes: Back in Action and my mom, a huge Harry potter fan at the time, got Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. It was my turn to open my present. I picked the one that had looked like my dad's and mom's last present. I opened it and saw the scowling face of Tony Stewart and those race cars on the front cover. I was ecstatic. Later that day, my aunt and uncle and their two sons came over for Christmas dinner. They had gotten me a present. It was a big box, I opened it and it was my only racing wheel ever. With my two cousins who were NASCAR fans as well and me, we had a racing tournament. The first race was at Texas Motor Speedway. I was racing my older cousin and I won. The next race was between my two cousins and was at the fantasy track, Daytona Beach. My younger cousin won that one. Then me and my younger cousin had the final race at Watkins Glen. I lost that race and was disappointed, so I trained hard for the entire year so that I could beat him next year.

I can definitely agree with you, Nascar Thunder 2004 is the best stock car game to date.

I still think back to both Nascar Thunder & Nascar Total Team Control & wonder when are we once again going to get a Nascar game with the features of these 2 great games. Activisions latest offering was ultimately a let down on many fronts. That said it was a first year release so maybe the series will grow with future iterations.

I think after this one, I will what I am doing now to NASCAR 06: Total Team Control
