PRESEASON GAME 1
STEELERS @ REDSKINS
Rex Grossman got the start at quarterback to begin the wide open competition for the Redskins job. He would play the first quarter, completing 4 of 5 passes for 59 yards. John Beck came in to relieve him in the second, and newly acquired Nate Davis played the entire second half. All 3 quarterbacks put up decent numbers and no one really separated themselves.
As for the rest of the game, the Redskins first team defense put up a good fight, only allowing 7 points, and sacking Big Ben twice in the first quarter. The second and third team defense, however, did not fair as well, giving up 31 points over the final 3 quarters, constantly missing assignments and not finishing tackles.
The most worrisome thing to come out of this game is Washington's running game. None of our running backs could get anything going. We finished the game with 41 yards rushing on the night. That has to improve or it will be a long season.
FINAL SCORE: PIT 38 WAS 14
After sacking Big Ben on the first play of the game, Mendenhall get it all back...and more.
Brian Orakpo comes unblocked off the edge to sack Big Ben in the First Quarter.
Down 7-0 early, Laron Landry and rookie Ryan Kerrigan team up for a huge play.
Quarterback John Beck ties the game at 7 early in the 2nd.
Nate Davis and Brandon Banks add a little more respectability to the scoreboard with under 30 seconds left.
One game in the books, another one coming up next week on the road against the Colts. Before then, though, more cuts need to be made, as we continue to retool this roster. Who will be the unlucky players? Stay tuned....
